Job Description: Sr. Staff Accountant
This position is on-site at our Los Angeles (Playa Vista) location. The Senior Staff Accountant role will be critical to the success of the General Ledger team. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant will support various areas of general ledger accounting, including but not limited to banks reconciliations, payroll reconciliations, other balance sheet accounts reconciliations and accounts roll-forwards, monthly and quarterly analysis of accounts activities, intercompany reconciliations and financial statements consolidation, financial reporting processes improvements and performance of SOX controls, auditor’s support during annual audit and quarterly reviews.
Job description and technical requirements:
- Supports the Company’s monthly close process, including preparing monthly journal entries, performing GL account reconciliations and roll-forward schedules, performing data analysis and researching/applying proper accounting treatment for transactions, preparing financial reports, completing rapid period-end closings and meeting all required deadlines.
- Supports the Company’s auditor’s requests and prepares various supporting schedules for financial reporting and audit purposes.
- Ability to interpret contracts and identify accounting issues. Propose proper accounting treatment for new transactions.
- Apply judgment to ensure that the integrity of accounting entries, accruals, and account reconciliations and that the close process is operating efficiently.
- Supports financial and SOX audits, including preparation of documentation, workpapers and reports to support audit inquiries from internal and external auditors.
- Displays a continuous improvement mindset, analyzing current processes and identifying, recommending, and implementing process and procedural improvements.
- Participates in various departmental projects, including but not limited to system implementations, integrations, and transactional accounting.
- Develops and maintains strong working relationships with colleagues across the Company.
- Maintains current knowledge of GAAP and other accounting and reporting requirements.
- Support compliance and improve processes and internal controls.
- Work directly with external auditors to support financial statement audits and SOX control environment testing.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in accounting or related field.
- 3-5 years of related corporate accounting experience with increasing responsibilities in a small – mid size public company and/or Public Accounting Firm.
- CPA Required
- Strong and broad knowledge of GAAP.
- Prefer experience with clinical stage biotech companies
- Intermediate knowledge (or better) of Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of Sage Intacct, Bill.com or other mid-size to large ERP.
- Effective communication, analytical, research and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work positively in a dynamic high-performance environment.
- Ability to work under pressure of deadlines and commit to overtime, as necessary.

Physical Demands and Requirements
- Able for full-time work in an office environment
- Able to use standard computer, telephone and related equipment for communication, correspondence, and recordkeeping.
- Able to occasionally provide on-call availability and responsiveness during non-business hours.
