Food Safety and Quality Supervisor

Reports To: Director of Quality


The Food Safety and Quality Supervisor will be responsible for verifying and maintaining the facility food safety, quality (QC and QA), and other related programs. This position will also be responsible for maintaining food safety and quality assurance policies, procedures, and monitoring documentation to assure Vanns Spices is meeting food safety and quality requirements established by Vanns Spices, our customers, as well as State and Federal Regulators. Working with the Director of Food Safety and Quality, this position will be instrumental in rolling out newly implemented programs, existing programs and other processes in concert with site SQF and FDA requirements.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform Food Safety and Quality audits on a weekly basis.
  • Cooperatively reduce non-conformances in products, as well as reducing marginal product disposition.
  • Oversee proper deviation process, when needed, including recordkeeping, task management and corrective action planning.
  • Ensure verification of reporting of Food Safety and Quality data, including sanitation and housekeeping tasks and checklists, both digitally and manually.
  • Maintain proper facility testing, including environmental and product monitoring, as required.
  • Review Food Safety and Quality paperwork and assist in updating SOPs as needed.
  • Assist the Director in coordinating and validating quality assurance activities across facility.
  • Represent Quality across all departments at Vanns Spices.
  • Provide leadership in root cause analysis and CAPA investigations, as needed.
  • Review and analyze data gathered from incoming raw material COA’s, shelf-life studies, product testing, Quality Assurance and Food Safety data, and other test data conducted by the department to analyze trends and/or to determine if any system improvements, or immediate corrective actions, are required.

 Skills and Knowledge:

  • 1-3 years’ experience at a supervisor or Lead level working in food manufacturing in a technical services role (QA, Food Safety, Organic Compliance, Regulatory Compliance, or other similar work experience) OR 5-7 years of experience as a proactive and energetic Quality or Food Safety Technician.
  • Knowledge, and working experience, with, food and/or CPG products, HACCP GMPs/Prerequisite programs; raw materials supply management and sanitation.
  • SQF Implementation and/or Process experience is preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer operating systems routinely used in manufacturing environments. Experience in digital recordkeeping is also preferred.

 Physical Requirements: Standing, walking, or sitting for long periods of time. This is a production facility-based position with limited travel requirements. Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time. Must be able to carry up to 20 lbs. of equipment. Must be able to walk up and down stairs, bend and walk under equipment.

Must be able to work variable hours, depending on business needs, including mornings, evenings, and weekends.
