As our Senior Content Strategist, you will be responsible for defining and implementing our content strategy. You’ll work closely with a team of copywriters, designers, SEOs and other content producers to ensure successful execution of that strategy. You’ll also work closely with other senior managers and leaders, engage with our customers and marketing partners, empathize with consumers and users, and bring your own insights to identify and prioritize opportunities to leverage content marketing and effective storytelling to reach and engage our audiences. From inspiration to collaboration to development of digital content strategy, the Senior Content Strategist will play a critical role in providing insights and recommendations to lead our content strategy.

Essential Skills and Qualities

What you'll do

  • Build content strategies that map to high-level business goals and audience personas
  • Develop a deep understanding of our education-focused websites, personas, and school customers; create and optimize compelling content for different student personas, driving conversion results across our websites and marketing channels
  • Create and maintain an editorial calendar or content road map, and work with our content team to execute the plan and monitor results.
  • Translate data-driven insights and combine them with user-centered strategies to generate breakthrough creative ideas
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop new approaches to content strategy analysis and identify fresh frameworks for success
  • Work alongside company leadership and department managers to inform and evangelize our content strategy, balancing the interests of internal and external stakeholders within the context of strategic initiatives and company objectives
  • Guide the development and improvement of user personas and establish creative guidelines, including voice and tone, appropriate for our target audience
  • Monitor and report the effectiveness of content marketing initiatives against key performance indicators, drive improvements or changes when needed, and help develop the case for continued and further investment in content strategies that work

Essential skills and Experience

  • Minimum seven years of relevant experience, with greater emphasis given towards roles within organizations whose livelihood depends on content marketing and SEO
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage, and develop a team, including full-time personnel and freelance contributors
  • Proven ability to develop a robust content marketing strategy and actionable editorial calendar, preferably using Agile Marketing methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, the ability to think clearly, analyze quantitatively, problem-solve, and define project requirements in an actionable manner
  • Ability to act and think strategically with a perspective that is informed by data analysis and an awareness of consumer content consumption patterns
  • Experience with SEO, tracking and trend analysis, site engagement metrics, and/or other web analytics to guide content offerings that include blogs, video, audio, infographics, PR, branding and other short-form communications
  • Practical understanding of conversion rate optimization, A/B and multivariate testing tools and techniques, and the ability to draw insights from experiments
  • Working knowledge of performance marketing, lead generation, SEM/PPC, affiliate marketing, and other paid digital marketing techniques and technology
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or related communications field strongly preferred

Beneficial skills and Experience

  • Experience developing and executing video marketing strategies, both on and off-site, will be valuable; conversational knowledge of integrating video into overall content marketing strategies is essential
  • Hands-on experience with WordPress 5 and Gutenberg builder will be extremely helpful; understanding of the core features and limitations of WordPress is critical
  • Familiarity with email and marketing automation platforms, including experience buying and implementing such systems, will serve you well
  • Translate data-driven insights and combine them with user-centered strategies to generate breakthrough creative ideas
  • Working knowledge of information architecture and other elements of user experience design a huge plus
  • Experience in U.S. post-secondary education, career colleges, or adult learning would set you apart
