Top-performing, vertically integrated real estate investment manager Is seeking a Senior Development Accountant to join their fast-paced New York team. This role will work in a collaborative environment that values dedication and innovation and will be essential in managing accounting operations and building strong relationships with internal teams and external property managers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with day-to-day financial operations for the Property Development and Management Teams.
  • Performance of the property accounting functions for a portfolio of properties (detailed functions are included below).
  • Collaborate with internal and external property managers including detailed review of their work (detailed functions are included below).
  • Monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Monthly loan draw preparation and compliance reporting.
  • Manage new acquisition onboarding including preparing opening entries.
  • Prepare property sale entries, and prorations and work with attorneys/title companies throughout the closing process.
  • Perform variance analyses and provide comments.
  • Sales & local transfer tax and franchise tax calculations.
  • Review bank reconciliations.
  • CAM reconciliations.
  • Reconciliation of tenant accounts as necessary.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets.
  • Review property management fee calculations.
  • Review lease agreement setup, review, and maintenance in Yardi.
  • Help manage annual audits.
  • Assist with special projects related to the monthly close reporting process, budgets, internal audit, external audit, and investor and lender requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • 5+ years of experience in property development (job costs) and operations accounting.

     

  • Proficiency with Yardi preferred.
  • Understanding of lease agreements and lease terms.
  • Strong Excel skills preferred.
  • Ability to learn employer-specific web-based software programs.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and organize
  • Exercise a high degree of independent judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Interact with employees, visitors, and contractors with poise and diplomacy
  • Exchange ideas, information, and opinions with others to formulate policies and programs
  • Perform numerical and financial calculations
  • Analyze and interpret various types of data to formulate policies and solve problems.
