Associate Director, Data Transformation - Asset Management Firm

Global investment management firm is searching for an Associate Director, Data Transformation to join the Data Transformation team within the Data Office at their offices in Los Angeles. The firm manages assets across a broad spectrum of predominantly fixed income assets (including public and private corporate debt, MBS, commercial and residential mortgages, ABS, bank loans), as well as alternative investments, equities and derivatives. The Data Transformation team spearheads all data-driven transformation initiatives.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for data, data-related processes and systems, and will have extensive experience working with similar financial services firms. Specifically, this role will support the efforts in conceiving and developing data transformation initiatives, designed to translate senior leadership’s strategic vision and operating model changes, as well as the need to address data limitations, into viable action plans. Also, will lead the successful execution of these initiatives by providing data leadership in analyzing and triaging root causes, solutioning data limitations, closely partnering with functional leaders, data owners and data stewards, and subject-matter-experts (SMEs), as well as external vendors and consultants.

Accountabilities:

  • Accountability for successful execution of assigned data transformation initiatives;
  • Support the development of key data transformation initiatives and corresponding process and system solutions through close collaboration with data owners and stewards, business and technology leaders;
  • Support data transformation progress in a fast-paced environment by providing leadership in analyzing and triaging data challenges, solutioning problems, mitigating risks and communicating progress;
  • Identify and shape continuous improvement opportunities and recommendations that drives data to better serve the rapidly-growing insurance solutions business;
  • Work across functions and data supply chain to define and document how data and interfaces integrate into the end-to-end business and IT processes;
  • Build and maintain partnerships with all relevant functional areas within the firm. Work with functional leadership, key stakeholders, data owners and data stewards, to build consensus through effective communications of well-analyzed business cases and supporting materials.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, or related discipline, MBA and CFA preferred;
  • 7+ years of experience in financial or consulting industry;
  • Experience in data-related process re-engineering and system transformation in investment management industry;
  • Knowledge of data-driven processes, products, technology, and controls in key investment management functions;
  • Knowledge and experience in data strategy and data transformation programs preferred;
  • Track record of leading data transformation initiatives across business and IT functions;
  • General understanding of complex investment management infrastructure and landscape;
  • Experience with leading investment systems (e.g., Aladdin, thinkFolio, Bloomberg, EDM, PAM) beneficial (although not essential);
  • Strong skills in Data/Reporting tools e.g. SQL, Power BI. Python is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to translate business data needs into system capabilities and/or process designs;
  • General knowledge of financial instruments (e.g., fixed income, alternative investments, equities and derivatives);
  • Strong problem solver with the ability to identify and triage data issues and drive tactical and strategic solutions;
  • Communication and influencing skills with partners and peers at all levels of the organization;
  • Experience to navigate skillfully within a matrix organization;
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to recognize and take actions that maximizes value for the organization.
