Software Development Manager – Shared Services

Position Overview
The Software Development Manager leads the Shared Services engineering function responsible for cloud-based services and APIs that support multiple software products. This role combines people leadership, delivery management, and technical oversight, with accountability for reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.
Reporting to senior software leadership, this role is part of the broader development leadership group that defines engineering standards, delivery practices, and long-term platform strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Management
- Lead and mentor a cross-functional team of software developers and DevOps engineers across distributed global locations
- Build a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance feedback, and career development discussions
- Provide technical coaching and support professional growth
- Contribute to leadership discussions on engineering strategy, standards, and planning
Delivery Management
- Plan and manage sprint execution and release cadence to ensure predictable delivery
- Use flow metrics such as cycle time, throughput, WIP, and flow efficiency to guide execution
- Balance near-term delivery needs with long-term platform sustainability
- Oversee shared platform capabilities including authentication, licensing, content management, and integration APIs
- Drive technical debt reduction and continuous reliability improvements
DevOps & Site Reliability Engineering
- Ensure reliability, scalability, and performance of cloud services
- Lead adoption of DevOps and SRE best practices including CI/CD automation and infrastructure as code
- Support modern deployment strategies such as blue/green and canary releases
- Establish monitoring, alerting, and incident management practices
- Partner with security and architecture teams to align with security and compliance standards
- Promote automation and measurable reliability outcomes such as MTTR and deployment frequency
Technical & Architectural Stewardship
- Maintain architectural integrity and scalability across the cloud SaaS platform
- Review technical designs for quality, maintainability, and operational readiness
- Introduce and standardize modern architectural patterns and observability practices
- Ensure alignment across shared services and product engineering teams
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience leading globally distributed software and DevOps teams
- Strong foundation in modern SaaS architectures, APIs, and cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
- Experience with Agile, Scrum, or Kanban delivery models and flow-based metrics
- Hands-on knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automation, and reliability engineering practices
- Understanding of secure coding, IAM, and compliance-aligned development practices
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Commitment to building high-performing, psychologically safe teams
Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional software development experience with at least 3 years in engineering leadership
- Experience managing multiple priorities across distributed teams
- Demonstrated success supporting production SaaS or shared platform environments
- Experience delivering cloud-native or hybrid systems integrated with enterprise platforms
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Experience in utility, energy, or infrastructure-related software environments preferred
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation includes a competitive base salary range of $170,000–$180,000 with eligibility for a discretionary bonus. Total compensation may vary based on experience and qualifications.
