Field Safety Technician
The individual chosen will work with the company safety specialist to foster a culture of trust and cooperation between leaders and employees. By emphasizing behavioral safety, they aim to develop long-term solutions for removing risks and hazards. The technician will perform site audits, assist with and lead training sessions, maintain training records, participate in incident investigations, identify unsafe behaviors, and provide solutions to address these issues.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Conduct safety inspections of sites for compliance- regularly visit and inspect sites to identify and assess hazards, review HASPs and daily tailboards with crews.
- Assist in developing safety plans: Work with a safety specialist to create and implement safety plans and procedures to prevent incidents and injuries.
- Employee Training: assist/lead safety training on procedures and protocols to educate and mentor on compliance and safety.
- Maintaining relevant HSE documentation: documentation of site inspections, training, and assisting the safety specialist in documenting incident investigations.
- Participate in incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis to determine root cause and make recommendations for prevention.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED required. Some college coursework or safety-specific certification is preferred.
- Safety experience in utilities and construction is preferred.
- OSHA 10hr required.
- OSHA 30hr, HAZWOPER, UDig-NY certifications preferred.
- Knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.), and ability to learn new software quickly.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; must be able to effectively communicate with both internal and external stakeholders on safety concerns and issues, and create persuasive arguments using a variety of methods
- Capacity to foster an environment of teamwork which promotes the company’s safety culture, core values, and leadership principles.
- Team player, with the ability to also be proactive and effective when working independently.
- Demonstrated ability to adopt and apply new learnings
- Attention to detail with a strong work ethic.
- Must have valid drivers license.
- Must be able to visit construction sites, many of which will be in electric sub-stations. Walking on un-even ground (stone / dirt) will be common for the site visits.
- Overnight trips are expected to be necessary but infrequent, depending on workload and location.
