Position Overview:

Our Client is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Director of Business Development to lead the development and execution of strategic growth and business development initiatives. This leadership role is critical for advancing strategic growth objectives and expanding the firm's services and market presence. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in driving company growth through targeted business development activities, with a deep understanding of the relevant markets to support sustainable and responsible organizational growth. The Director of Business Development will be responsible for achieving annual Fees Commissioned goals for both the company and its departments/groups and will collaborate closely with the Senior Leadership Team to accomplish these objectives. This position reports directly to the CEO and is a key member of the firm’s Senior Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, lead, and implement comprehensive business development strategies to meet growth objectives.
  • Build and lead a high-performing business development team.
  • Achieve annual Fees Commissioned goals for both company-wide and department-specific targets.
  • Secure significant new opportunities through personal networks and connections.
  • Identify, evaluate, and secure new business opportunities, markets, and partnerships in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Work closely with technical departments to identify and pursue new clients and opportunities.
  • Lead annual business development planning efforts across all departments, overseeing plan execution to meet established goals.
  • Ensure collaboration and alignment of business development efforts across the company.
  • Develop and manage the structure and team needed to achieve business development goals.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with potential clients, partners, and industry stakeholders.
  • Track and analyze industry trends, market conditions, and the competitive landscape to inform business strategies.
  • Provide regular updates to market leaders and staff, advising on adjustments to business strategies and development efforts.
  • Establish metrics to assess business development performance and take corrective action where needed.
  • Recommend strategies to the Senior Leadership Team to increase market share and profitability.
  • Drive the adoption of business development skills throughout the company through training initiatives.
  • Oversee the firm’s client experience/satisfaction program.
  • Evaluate the performance of all staff involved in business development, providing training or other resources to ensure success.
  • Mentor and coach the business development team to meet goals.
  • Represent the firm at industry events and conferences, expanding business networks and securing new opportunities.
  • Collaborate with marketing staff on collateral, social media posts, articles, and website updates to support business development activities.

Estimated travel requirements: 50%

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field (MBA or advanced degree preferred).
  • 15+ years of experience in business development with a proven track record of successfully growing a company.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Results-oriented leader with the ability to achieve business development goals.
