Health & Safety Technician (3-5yrs)

Project Overview

  • 5-6 Month project assignment supporting Electric Utility project
  • Position is located in Central, NY and will require 5-days/week onsite work
  • Per Diem available for out of town candidates willing to work on-site 5-days/week

The Client

Our client is a respected contractor supporting electric and gas utility projects in NYS.

Responsibilities

· Assist in compliance reviews, general risk assessments and other safety assessments to support Health, Safety and Environmental management.

· Maintain relevant HSE documentation.

· Assist in the compliance of applicable laws and regulations.

· Prepare applicable HSE reports as necessary.

· Provide assistance on HSE issues to make recommendations to management.

· Participate in detailed incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis.

· Promote incident prevention for the benefit of employees, contractors, and other stakeholders.

· Assist in the presentation of relevant HSE training.

· Observe HSE regulations, wears all required safety equipment, encourages safe working practices, corrects obvious hazards immediately or reports them to the proper personnel.

· Ability to work with employees and achieve cultural change in the face of potential resistance

· Maintain positive and proactive relations with managers and employees, as well as our customers and regulatory agencies.

· Perform other work-related tasks, or duties assigned by the Safety Director.

· Comply with all company and HSE procedures and policies.

 

Qualifications / Requirements

Education/Certification

o Required - High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent

o Preferred – Associates degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field

Training – Preference for:

· OSHA 10-hour / 30-hour Construction

· Nationally recognized: First Aid, CPR & AED

· HAZWOPER 40-hour training

Additional Skills

· Should have strong working knowledge of electrical theory and safety (e.g. step potential, touch potential, grounding and bonding, inductive currents, etc.)

· Should have a strong working knowledge of Title 29 C.F.R. 1926 Construction Industry standards.

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

· Knowledge and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite (e.g. Word, Excel)

· Experience with technical writing a plus
