As the Sr. Director of Enterprise Applications, you will be responsible for the life cycle planning of business applications through the phases of strategize, architect, select, deploy, operate, evolve, and retire. You will manage the application group that has specific responsibility for building, configuring, maintaining, or enhancing, and eventually decommissioning applications through their life cycle. You will also be responsible for developing the application architecture and roadmap for the enterprise and business units in conjunction with the IT management council. Additionally, you will:

  • Provide leadership, vision, and direction to the applications organization to ensure it will contribute to the company achieving its goals
  • Work with CIO and other IT leaders to develop overall IT strategy in the context of the business strategy
  • Develop productive relationships with business leaders across the organization to influence how applications can enable new sources of value
  • Define and enhance methodologies and practices for the application life cycle management in line with best practice and practical experience of continuous improvement
  • Ensure that applications processes (including those of external service providers) are conducted in line with corporate social responsibility, environmental and technical policies, and applicable standards and legislation
  • Manage application group personnel, developing their skills and capabilities to meet the needs of the organization, as well as building on existing recruiting capabilities to address new needs and skills gaps
  • Implement and manage application life cycle management status reporting, metrics, and benchmarks
  • Manage relationships with major vendors and service providers to ensure they cost-effectively meet the needs of the organization
  • Conduct regular surveys of stakeholder satisfaction with applications, publish the results and, where necessary, implement action plans to improve satisfaction
  • Deliver and maintain the business application for the enterprise, including all corporate functions
  • Engage with corporate and BU-based resources to understand business requirements and demand
  • Manage the delivery lifecycle from technical design trough integration testing, collaborating with corporate and BU resources on functional design and user testing
  • Coordinate and drive the development and management of the system referential architecture
  • Coordinate with PMO business analysts to facilitate prioritization of work across the enterprise
  • Oversee the assessment of the technical and business fitness of the application portfolio and their associated costs and risks
  • Facilitate the application governance process to gain consensus on a prioritized set of measurable business outcomes that applications must support
  • Work with stakeholders and the application governance council to define a prioritized set of business outcomes and application work to accomplish those outcomes within the limitations of the application budget
  • Work with stakeholders to accomplish this application work in a way that improves the business and technical fitness of the application portfolio and minimized its ongoing support costs
  • Oversee the application organization’s successful delivery of these business outcomes in partnership with business colleagues
  • Oversee support activities in conjunction with infrastructure and operations to e3nsure the applications perform well in production
  • Work with the Director of Information Security to ensure that the organization’s applications are effectively secured and that risks are mitigated

What You’ll Need to be Successful:

  • At least 15 years of experience in managing a high-performing, cohesive team, and leading systems implementation and development
  • Bachelor’s degree OR Master’s degree in computer science, information systems, or business administration
  • Experience in leadership in deploying and configuring large scale systems such as ERP and financial systems such as SAP, Oracle, etc. in a portfolio-based manufacturing company
  • Experience in software design/development, mobile applications, application architecture, project management, software as a service, software integration, automated software testing, data management/governance, business intelligence, security, and/or business process analysis
  • Experience in managing a team of at least 15 members in application development, implementation, or management
  • Experience managing an organization, primarily using multiple development methodologies with a focus on Agile development and deployment
  • Demonstrated leadership experience building cross-organizational consensus with exposure to technology providers and/or business clients
  • Knowledge in financial accounting and reporting practices applicable to applications, costs, and risks
  • Knowledge in IT contracts and their likely cost implications
  • Knowledge in IT applications, operations, service, and support organizations
  • Knowledge in data processing, analysis, and quality management tools
  • Knowledge in development and implementation of processes and policies
  • Able to prioritize competing issues and effectively lead in a matrix environment
  • Able to identify risk within complex, interrelated programs
  • Able to assess dynamic situations objectively, and to make recommendations or decisions that best align with the corporate strategic objectives
  • Proponent or champion of change
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Able to work collaboratively and cooperatively as a team member, fostering an atmosphere of trust and respect
  • Proven problem solving and negotiation skills in multi-party situations and recognized as being resourceful
  • Outstanding interpersonal, both written and oral communication skills and executive presentation skills
  • Ability to effectively build and manage external relationships with vendors
  • Ability to influence all levels of staff and senior management in the decision-making process
