As the Portfolio Manager, you will lead a new strategic portfolio for the company. You will ensure the oversight and coordination of dependencies across the projects and programs in the portfolio and resolve or escalate conflicts. You will also engage with and conduct quarterly (or at other intervals as specified) reviews with senior business, IT, executives, stakeholder committees, the steering committee, and other relevant bodies to validate and assess the project portfolio, execute change, and reprioritize to meet business needs as required. Additionally, you will:

  • Lead and guide sponsors and business leaders through strategic prioritization, refinement, demand management, strategic alignment and planning of new project and strategic ideas across teams and between all impacted stakeholders across the organization
  • Assist with evaluating new project requests and in the assessment and prioritization of projects within the portfolio, ensuring project requests are appropriately vetted, assessed, and presented for approval
  • Partner with business, IT, and financial leadership to evaluate new project requests' anticipated value and cost against organizational priorities
  • Assist project sponsors in the preparation of materials for evaluation and review by the senior leadership team
  • Lead and facilitate the collection and tracking of staff allocation and demand management to assist senior leadership in decisions related to capacity for strategic initiatives
  • Drive for transparency and effective communication across the organization at all levels via the use of data and reporting
  • Ensure accurate project portfolio reporting, deviation, and alignment of benefits to the strategy
  • Identify and report on specific portfolio implications
  • Utilize Project Portfolio Management (PPM) tool to support analysis of capacity and demand, portfolio road mapping, and project and portfolio health reporting
  • Direct the creation and maintenance of the required project portfolio documentation and artifacts
  • Work directly with business and IT executives to obtain, manage, and achieve portfolio objectives, direction, and any necessary changes
  • Facilitate meetings as necessary and ensure participants/teams are achieving value from them
  • Help identify and understand risks, dependencies, and impediments and communicate with leadership and executives on issues as appropriate
  • Manage integrated scope, schedule, budget, and quality across the portfolio
  • Lead change management work to deliver more efficiently and effectively
  • Work with chair of the executive steering committee to set agendas and facilitate discussions
  • May have supervisory responsibilities of ePMO project managers, RTEs, and/or scrum masters

What You’ll Need to be Successful:

  • At least 8 years of experience managing a range of small-to-large Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid projects through all phases of the project lifecycle
  • Experience organizing complex programs and projects to strategic goals
  • Experience serving as Portfolio or Program Manager for 5 or more complex programs or large, complex projects with multiple workstreams.
  • Ability to tailor messages for a variety of audiences, including business and IT executives
  • Expert facilitation skills in executive-level meetings
  • Outstanding leadership and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience with innovation projects or research and development
