The  Instrumentation / Automation Manager is responsible for all the activities involving automation, instrumentation for an efficient minerals processing facility.  This includes primarily maintaining and improving PLC, operation computer networks, instrumentation equipment along with the management of field supervisors and bargaining unit employees.  


  • Responsible for the plant automation/instrumentation department and function, including planning & management of department team
  • Review deficiencies and technical issues of the automated systems  and instrumentation  to correct them.
  • Promotion of proper understanding of the Automation functions.
  • Work closely with the electrical department and production department to achieve common goals.
  • Monitor new technologies and possible technical improvements.
  • Develop  procedures  to operate  on  systems and for their maintenance during plant’s outages and daily operation of the plant.
  • Assist manager to perform cost-benefit reviews of the department’s budget.
  • Take responsibility for planning of daily activities with the Automation/Electrical Department.
  • Program, develop and maintain programming on Programmable Logic Controllers.
  • Program, develop applications and maintain Communication Networks for industrial applications.
  • Program and maintain embedded computer systems for process control, and operation supervision.
  • Endorse  development of objectives for his department with manager in compliance with the plant’s objectives.
  • Education on the Automation/Instrumentation cell of the plant will be required. Outside training might be necessary. 
  • Provide electrical support, when needed, to production department during nights and weekends
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Bachelors of Electrical Engineering
  • Industrial Electrical/Automation/Instrumentation experience (10yrs minimum) 
  • Demonstrated ability to provide work direction 
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze failures and implement effective corrective solutions 
  • Exercise independent decision-making, prioritize conflicting demands.
  • Ability to formulate decisions, make and support recommendations, prioritize work, communicate with multiple parties and handle multiple tasks.
  • Must be able to read and interpret electrical drawings.
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills to work in strong team environment.
  • Strong analytical and computer skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in hiring, mentoring and coaching employees for success.
  • Able to work effectively as a valued team member within a diverse environment with all levels of personnel to include management and hourly employees
  • Exercise independent decision-making, prioritize conflicting demands.
  • Must be able to read, write, and verbally communicate in English language, communicate positively with employees, customers and vendors at all levels.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to influence safety practices and initiatives 
  • Ability to work as a team member with strong time management and record keeping skills 
  • Must have availability to work some nights/weekends and off-hour call outs 
  • Ability to access all areas of the plant as required in order to perform duties of the position 
  • Must work in all weather conditions: heat, cold, wet, dry, dusty.etc.. 
  • Walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and/or slippery ground). 
  • Climb stairs and ladders as high as 200 feet in elevation.
  • Physical ability to climb on equipment to provide supervision during work.
  • Drive vehicle to various work locations.
