Training & Development Coach - Underground Mining Operations

Design and direct training & development programs to improve individual and organizational performance within an underground mining environment. Training programs will address required skill sets related to safety, maintenance for fixed and mobile plant equipment, production techniques, etc..


  • Assess training needs for new and existing employees
  • Partner with internal stakeholders regarding employee training needs
  • Organize, develop, or source training programs to meet specific training needs
  • Liaise with subject matter experts regarding instructional design
  • Develop training aids such as manuals and handbooks
  • Map out training plans for individual employees
  • Present training programs using recognized training techniques and tools
  • Facilitate learning through a variety of delivery methods including classroom instruction and on the job coaching
  • Design and apply assessment tools to measure training effectiveness
  • Track and report on training outcomes
  • Maintain employee training records
  • Handle logistics for training activities including venues and equipment
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external training suppliers
  • Manage training budget
  • Manage and maintain in-house training facilities and equipment
  • Stay current on training design and methodologies
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree in related field and/or a minimum of 4 to 8 years of related experience in the mining and minerals processing field or in a related industry (e.g. - construction)
  • Ability to effectively present information and speak effectively to others
  • Ability to help team members build competencies through interactions, feedback, and training
  • High proficiency level in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
  • High proficiency in MSHA part 56/57 standards knowledge preferred
  • Financial knowledge to aid in spending decisions and economic analysis
  • High proficiency in underground mining equipment operation preferred
  • 3-5 years experience in underground mining operations preferred
  • Knowledge of instructional design
  • Knowledge of training methodologies
  • Knowledge of competency assessments
  • Knowledge of learning management systems
  • Experience with heavy mobile equipment preferred
  • Experience with crushing and screening operations preferred
  • Analytical and skills
  • Exposure to continuous improvement methods (Lean/Six Sigma)
