Mining and Wet Plant Operations Manager

SUMMARY

Responsible for the overall state of Quarry and Wet Plant operations and production. Directs all daily operations of the processing of product. Ensures production is aligned with organization’s overall strategy. Develops and manages Operations budget. Manages formulation of strategies to ensure that manpower hours are in line with production run rates, overtime is minimized and manpower utilization is maximized. Oversees the identification of workplace hazards through workplace inspections, risk assessment and ongoing job safety analysis when appropriate. Manages the development and execution of appropriate training programs and measurement of subsequent ROI. Serves as mentor and coach to operation teams and drives development of team members ensuring job capabilities, competencies and program/policy application are best-of-class. Must be familiar with both day-to-day and strategic direction of Operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Mining and Wet Plant Operations Manager assumes full responsibility for plant production: throughput, gradations, quality, manpower, recovery, and operating budget
  • Mining and Wet Plant Operations Manager understands environmental permitting, rules, and regulation – ensure county, town and state compliance
  • Mining and Wet Plant Operations Manager champions a safety-first mentality – ensure direct reports know how to work safely and effectively
  • Formulates conceptual budgets for capital projects – justify financially – implement if approved
  • Understands current plant status from the mine to loading the trucks always; can articulate status to upper management at any time
  • Improves plant availability and uptime through proactive measures and planned maintenance
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and yearly reports
  • Track and reconcile weekly, monthly, and yearly inventories
  • Ensure that all plant employees receive a weekly crew meeting covering company goals, safety, production, and manpower - lead this meeting if necessary
  • Foster an environment where continuous process improvement initiatives are promoted
  • Implement process and safety standards and procedures
  • Coordinate and manage crew schedules – ensure that all crews are filled with competent labor
  • Ensure team members are skilled in the expected tasks to be performed; intervene accordingly
  • Assist with training and development of team members
  • Analyze and resolve work problems, or assist operators in solving work problems
  • Monitor all overtime – be accountable for tons/manhours
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and deal with changes, delays, or unexpected events
  • Complete special projects as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • Mining, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering degree a plus but not required.
  • 5+ years of hands-on mine processing plant experience
  • 5+ years of silica sand production experience (1+ million tons-per-year) a plus
  • 3+ years of supervisory and leadership experience
  • Lean 6-Sigma training desired
  • Proficient in Microsoft office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed inside and outside of the processing plant facility
  • Position requires the ability to lift, carry or otherwise move objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Position also requires bending, stooping and crouching on a regular basis
