Director of Distribution

The executive search firm Saenger Associates has been exclusively retained to find a Director of Distribution for a new, state-of-the art wholesale distribution center in the Southeast.Our client has been in business for over 30 years, manufacturing and distributing consumer goods to major big box retailers and direct to consumers in the United States.


  • Develop and implement strategic and financial plans and objectives which are consistent with the established long- and short-term goals of the company and ensure proper execution
  • Develop and maintain distribution and inventory management best practices to ensure customer expectations are met
  • Ensure daily operational requirements are well-defined and sufficiently resourced and continuously monitor the facility for continual process flow, organization, and cleanliness
  • Direct and manage long-term approaches to optimize and sustain distribution and fulfillment processes including, but not limited to, the ongoing inventory forecasting and control, shipping, quality control, maintenance that effectively supports all departments, and work-safe procedures
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, distribution partners, and vendors
  • Prepare and oversee a significant operating budget and capital expenditures
  • Work closely on a day-to-day basis with Sales, Customer Service, IT, and HR teams
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements
  • Successfully recruit and retain employees in a tight and highly competitive labor market
  • Provide training and coaching to the staff and foster a culture where employees feel they are a part of the team, empowered to make a difference


  • 15+ years of experience with track record of building and leading world class teams in high-volume, fast paced, production and distribution centers of excellence
  • Executive level experience working for companies of $300 million revenue or more
  • Knowledge of customer service, manufacturing and distribution operations
  • Ability to understanding and provide financial information and analysis.
  • Experience developing and executing long term distribution and supply chain strategies
  • Experience distributing product to most major US retailers
  • Expertise with Manhattan’s WMS systems and Labor Management; Autostore experience preferred
  • Undisputed integrity, personal and business ethics; ability to build trust and respect with different stakeholder groups internally and externally
  • Bachelor’s degree required
