Mennonite Aid Plan is a faith based nonprofit Mutual Insurance Company where the policy holders are both the customers and owners. MAP exists to serve the Kingdom of God through developing genuine relationships with our clients by providing excellent insurance services and exercising prudent financial responsibility. We are currently accepting applications for our Staff Accountant position. Under the direction of the President and CEO, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for a variety of financial tasks, including maintaining accurate financial records, facilitating bank deposits, preparing financial statements, reconciling accounts, assisting in the accounting and reporting aspects of the company’s reinsurance program, and overseeing both accounts payable and receivable. The Staff Accountant will also ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and SAP (Statutory Accounting Principles) and may also be involved in various tax filings and audits.


Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining Financial Records by ensuring all accounting transactions are recorded accurately and timely.
  • Preparing Financial Statements including balance sheet, income statements and other financial reports.
  • Reconciling Accounts, bank statements, general ledger accounts and other balance sheet accounts.
  • Assisting with Accounts Payable/Receivable including customer billing.
  • Participating in month-end and year-end closing processes, including preparing journal entries and account reconciliation.
  • Ensuring compliance with GAAP and SAP, as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Conducting periodic internal audits and providing support for external audits.
  • Assisting in the preparation and filing of various tax returns, including premium taxes.
  • Preparing various reports for management review and decision making.
  • Preparing and submitting financial data to regulatory authorities and rating agencies.
  • Preparing and monitoring corporate budgets.


The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • College degree in accounting or closely related field preferred.
  • A combination of formal accounting education and relevant work experience will be considered.
  • 3-5 years bookkeeping and/or accounting experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat, and relevant accounting software.
  • Adept at problem solving, communicating, and working efficiently in a team environment.
  • Excellent time management skills with flexibility to change projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ideal candidate should be detailed oriented, organized and experienced with full-service AR/AP
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles including GAAP and SAP
  • Insurance industry experience is highly desirable.
