As a Lead Mechanic, you will report directly to the Fleet Manager and be responsible for servicing and maintaining our fleet of trucks and trailers. This role is responsible for troubleshooting vehicle issues, performing repairs, conducting routine inspections and maintenance, and overseeing the work of a junior mechanic. You will have the autonomy to take ownership of your work while serving as a vital member of our operations team. In this position, you will benefit from strong leadership support, dealership-level resources, and collaboration with mechanics at other locations.
Specific Responsibilities
- Conduct diagnostic tests on vehicles to identify and resolve malfunctions.
- Repair suspension systems, pump equipment, electrical wiring, steering mechanisms, and braking systems.
- Perform routine servicing and scheduled maintenance on fleet vehicles.
- Travel to multiple yards to service and repair out-of-service units.
- Complete daily visual inspections of vehicles to ensure operational readiness.
- Record all repairs and services in the computer-based fleet tracking system.
- Collaborate with the Fleet Manager to maintain adequate inventory of spare parts.
- Communicate truck availability, repair status, and timelines with the operations team.
- Test drive vehicles to verify quality of repairs and overall performance.
- Carry out preventative maintenance on service trucks.
- Follow established inspection procedures and complete all checklist requirements.
- Perform 90-day DOT inspections and maintain accurate documentation for CHP compliance.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment.
Requirements
- Be able to work in a fast-paced environment & multi-task.
- Occasional traveling to other work sites.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience as a mechanic.
- Ability to lift parts and equipment weighing up to 150 pounds.
- Must have own set of personal tools.
- California driver’s license and clean driving record required.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
Hours and Pay
- Monday through Friday; weekends as needed and opportunities for overtime available.
- $30-35 per hour
