General Manager

Merlin Plastics is focused on recycling post-consumer and post-industrial waste into reusable plastics for plastics products manufacturers. Reporting directly to the President, the General Manager will lead safety, quality, production, maintenance, and warehouse teams to safely ensure on-time production and delivery. The primary focus of this role is on safety, quality, and operational excellence. This individual will be responsible for implementing and stabilizing internal processes. Metrics of this role will be based on reduction of downtime, improvement in safety performance, improved product quality, improvement in first run material yield and driving consistent productivity.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Drive a behavior-based culture of excellence in safety performance.
  • Ensure that all employees are properly trained in safety and that there is a continuous and daily effort to ensure compliance with all OSHA safety standards.
  • Minimize downtime, establish root cause, and coordinate with Engineering for long term operational solutions.
  • Ensure proper training and setup, coordinate with Maintenance to ensure equipment is always in running order, and continuously evaluating ways of surpassing standards.
  • Continuously evaluate plans and resources in order to maximize production capability by assuring that the plant is exceeding its budgeted goals.
  • Produce monthly reports of labor, material yield, maintenance spend and machine efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the President of Merlin Group on the development and implementation of a robust quality management system.
  • Review customer complaints and corrective actions on a regular basis in order to implement lasting corrective actions, employing root cause analysis, that improve customer service and product quality.
  • Hold regular meetings and reviews to ensure quality and food safety systems are working as intended and facilitate corrective actions wherever necessary.
  • Develop and implement HACCP system to comply with customer requirements.
  • Ensure all supervisors, setup employees, operators, grinders, and material processors understand their roles.
  • Formalize Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs) as part of training program – cascade to entire organization.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in engineering or operations management.
  • 10 years or more of operations management experience, preferably within a plastics recycling environment.
  • Industry experience with plastics and especially Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET).
  • Previous recycling experience is a plus with knowledge of grinding, shredding, sorting, and plastics extrusion.
  • Planning, organizing and prioritizing skills with strong communication and leadership abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to understand operational data and must be able to measure key operational metrics.
  • Strong technical ability; must possess troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.


Position offers a competitive salary between $180,000 - $220,000 plus performance-based bonuses, annually. Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, PTO, Sick Time, and 401(k) with Company match.
