Director of Compliance

 

The Director, Compliance is responsible for the operation of the Compliance Department as well as a subject matter expert for client-related compliance issues. The Director, Compliance is responsible, with active support from the VP, Compliance and Risk Management, for managing a comprehensive compliance strategy and program to ensure that the agency and its associates are complying with regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS: As the Compliance Department team lead and subject matter expert, the Director, Compliance is responsible for implementing procedures to ensure that the compliance programs throughout the organization are effective and efficient in identifying, preventing, detecting and correcting noncompliance with applicable rules and regulations. The Director, Compliance will report directly to the VP and will help inform senior management of important issues and material violations. The Director, Compliance will be a liaison of communication with our clients about reporting timelines, audits and will address compliance questions and concerns to meet our clients’ needs.

 

SPECIFIC TASKS: Working with the VP, overseeing and monitoring the implementation of the compliance program Managing members of the Compliance Department, including those responsible for internal transaction reviews and preparation of aggregate spend reporting Periodically revising the program to address changes in the needs of the agency, and in the law and policies and procedures of government and industry Working alongside employees and leadership team to maintain and further develop a strong culture of ethics and compliance, including personal accountability at all levels in the organization, with a spirit of partnership and positive problem solving Developing a compliance process committed to ensuring that aggregate spend data we report is as accurate as possible, using extensive processes to collect and review data prior to submission Clearly communicating the vision, mission, and strategies of the ethics and compliance program both internally and to our clients Implementing the annual compliance work plan that reflects the agency’s highest risks that will be monitored by the compliance function as determined by conducting an annual risk assessment using an enterprise wide approach Maintaining current knowledge of laws and regulations, keeping abreast of recent changes Developing, coordinating, and participating in a multifaceted educational and training program that focuses on the elements of the compliance program, and seeks to ensure that all appropriate employees and management are knowledgeable of, and comply with, pertinent federal and state standards Coordinating internal compliance review and monitoring activities including periodic reviews of departments Developing policies and programs that encourage managers and employees to report suspected fraud and other improprieties without fear of retaliation Developing materials at an agency level for distribution to all employees to enhance awareness of compliance activities Responding to government/client investigations/audits and queries as the principal point of contact Monitoring external audit review processes, and in conjunction with VP, Compliance and Risk Management, responding to administrative inquiries related to compliance issues or audits Participating in the Request for Proposal (RFP) process with our clients and presenting during pitch offerings with our clients Working with the VP to ensure proper resourcing of Compliance Department as needed to meet needs of agency and clients

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED ANALYTICAL SKILLS – Ability to compare, contrast and quality check work and keen attention to detail. Can present numerical data orally and in writing or through graphics.

 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS – Superior interpersonal and customer service skills.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS – Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Power Point, especially spreadsheets, database and reporting tools. Knowledge of CVENT is preferred.

DECISION MAKING SKILLS – Ability to make clear, concise decisions and solve complex problems.

 

ESTABLISHING AND MAINTAINING INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS – Establishing and maintaining an excellent relationship with the client and the participants is critical to the success of this position.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS – Ability to organize, plan and prioritize work in a fast-paced work environment. Ability to achieve goals in a timely fashion.

 

TRAVEL – Some travel may be required. This may include weekend and evening hours.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT, POSITION TYPE, EXPECTED HOURS This job is a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. This is a full-time position. Days of work are Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week with some travel.

 

Required Education and Experience

Minimum of 5 years legal and compliance experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
