Alternative Fuels & Raw Materials Engineer

Sparrow Company is looking for an Alternative Fuels & Raw Materials Engineer for one of our clients.

We have an excellent opportunity for a Process Engineer focusing on Alternative Fuels and Raw Materials in our Corporate Engineering Office. This is a salary exempt position and will report to the Director of Technology.


• Develop and maintain strong partnership with two Cement Plants

• Employ a hunter’s mentality to uncover and secure supply opportunities and drive results creatively creating solutions that do not currently exist.

• Prepare and deliver quality and impactful presentations to a variety of internal and external audiences.

• Develop and maintain database of alternative fuels opportunities and customers.

• Evaluates alternative fuels and raw materials for environmental compliance, special permitting needs, and effectiveness within kiln

• Lead trial runs of alterative fuels and raw materials testing with the cement plants.

• Travel when required – up to 30%

Required Skills:

• Ability to independently learn and understand technical, regulatory, and external issues regarding the environmental programs at the cement plants.

• Understanding of continuous improvement, process control and quality control.

• Computer proficiency and intermediate knowledge of Microsoft office.

• Must be highly motivated, entrepreneurial, innovative and detail oriented with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Required Experience:

• Must have B.S. Degree in Engineering with a minimum of 3 years cement production experience or A.S. Degree in Engineering and 5 years cement production experience.

• Knowledge of cement industry, rotary cement kiln and milling operations; pyro-processes and interdependency of equipment operation efficiencies and their impact on quality.

• Practical knowledge of cement manufacturing equipment

• Application and use of Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems

• Experience with burning alternative fuels (biomass, tires, engineered fuels) is a plus.

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are essential.

• Proficiency in MS Office programs required (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

• Must possess strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
