Senior Geotechnical Engineer/Practice Leader

Summary:

Seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to manage the geotechnical engineering and materials testing practice in our San Jacinto office. The position will report directly to the company president, with significant advancement and equity opportunity.

While we’ll support your continued development and professional growth, the following qualifications will set you up for success in this role:

  • BS degree in civil engineering (MS degree in geotechnical engineering preferred).
  • 10 years of minimum related experience.
  • California-registered geotechnical engineer.
  • Proficient in advanced geotechnical analysis and software.
  • Proficient in California Building Code requirements with respect to geotechnical engineering, construction inspection and materials testing.
  • Familiar with Caltrans Standard Specifications and Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (Greenbook).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.

Our work mix is about 75% public and 25% private. Projects include treatment plants, pipelines, reservoirs, local street improvements, schools, libraries, fire and police stations, commercial facilities, industrial facilities and residential developments.

Our laboratory is AASHTO-accredited, Caltrans qualified and accepted by the California Division of State Architect. We are experiencing significant growth and plan to double in size by 2028, with additional offices in San Bernardino County and elsewhere. This is a great opportunity for the right candidate.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

In this role, you’ll be a critical part of IFE’s mission to deliver high-quality geotechnical engineering and materials testing services.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee geotechnical and related investigations from proposal to final report, including site exploration, lab testing, analysis and client communication.
  • Manage testing projects, including site visits, reporting, consulting and budget oversight.
  • Provide technical supervision and mentorship for engineers, geologists, inspectors and technicians. Interface regularly with clients, contractors, design teams and internal staff to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Support and manage our laboratory Quality Management System to maintain key accreditations and qualifications (AASHTO, Caltrans, DSA).
  • Participate in business planning, recruiting, training and marketing activities to support our 3-year growth plan.
  • Represent the firm in professional organizations and at conferences to stay ahead of  industry trends and build relationships.

Compensation for this position ranges from $135,000 to $185,000 and will depend on the candidate’s salary history, experience, education and licensure.
