Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Reliability Engineer supports planning of major and specialized maintenance jobs. Collaborates and participates in operations and maintenance jobs, develops and executes preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activity programs, and provides technical support to maintenance and operations functions in continuous improvement activities.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops and proposes preventive, predictive, and autonomous maintenance, specifying and updating frequency for each maintenance task, based on a normal operation and on the objectives of the maintenance function.
- Suggests specific activities for inspection, lubrication, cleaning, and changing of parts to equipment, based on recommendations from the manufacturer, the supplier, and from the experience of the personnel in plant, in order to detect and/or avoid equipment deterioration.
- Provides technical support and follow-up to major and highly specialized maintenance jobs.
- Directs work required for investigating costs of performances that seem to be out-of-line and recommends corrective actions.
- Assures that all maintenance and operating tasks in the plant are scheduled and planned as specified, following up the quality of jobs.
- Promotes ongoing improvement in equipment and administrative procedures.
- Collects and analyzes equipment maintenance history; investigates repetitive damages in order to evaluate effectiveness of preventive and predictive maintenance and operating procedures.
- Contacts original equipment manufacturers whenever it is necessary to resolve operating and reliability problems.
- Collaborates with maintenance team regarding the specification of new equipment, assuring reliability of operation and the lowest cycle of life.
- Proposes modifications on existing facilities to enhance performance or reliability.
- Controls design and specifications of new parts or components that will be manufactured by a central (internal) workshop or by an external contractor.
- Assists in planning major shutdown work requests with a high degree of specialization, regarding instructions, human resources estimates, materials, special tools, and estimated duration of jobs.
- Provides expertise regarding technical problems found in equipment manufacturing, tests, facilities, and manufacturing of modified parts and components.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- This position requires knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired through a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical ,electrical, or industrial engineering, or related field.
- This position requires a minimum of three to five years of experience in heavy industry or manufacturing.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of statistical, mathematical, and engineering concepts.
- Knowledge of predictive maintenance technologies.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, manuals, regulations, and codes.
- Ability to write business reports and correspondence.
- Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers, contractors, and employees.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and chemical systems.
- Ability to gather information and perform root cause analysis and problem-solving.
- Ability to create reports for review by upper management.
- Computer literacy skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
