Certified Medical Assistant

A well-established healthcare facility is seeking a skilled and compassionate Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with experience in pediatrics to support its clinical team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting physicians in patient care, managing clinical documentation, and supporting the daily operations of a busy pediatric clinic. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for patients; welcome them to the clinic, take brief medical histories, and record vital signs.
  • Escort pediatric patients from waiting room to exam room; prepare them for examinations and ensure exam rooms are cleaned and disinfected after each use.
  • Interview patients and record/update information in the medical record. Collect all relevant clinical data to inform provider evaluation.
  • Measure, collect, and record patients’ vital signs (e.g., pulse rate, oxygen saturation, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height); prepare patients for examinations and basic procedures.
  • Perform routine testing and specimen collection (e.g., blood, urine, throat cultures, wound cultures, etc.); prepare and label specimens following protocol.
  • Administer oral, topical, inhaled, intramuscular, or subcutaneous medications and vaccines as directed by the provider and within the scope of practice.
  • Change simple and non-complex dressings; perform wound care per provider instructions.
  • Maintain proper functioning of medical equipment and ensure infection control procedures are followed at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality and patient privacy; verify and ensure accurate documentation in the EMR system.
  • Schedule follow-ups such as appointments, referrals, or testing as requested.
  • Educate and counsel patients and families regarding processes, requirements, or care instructions as appropriate.
  • Support front office operations, including but not limited to answering phones, scheduling, patient registration, and data entry.
  • Provide guidance to junior staff or newly hired Medical Assistants as assigned.
  • May be required to support other pediatric or clinical departments for cross-coverage needs.
  • May participate in multidisciplinary team meetings or outreach efforts as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be able to provide sealed transcripts.
  • Graduation from an accredited CAAHEP or ABHES Medical Assistant program.
  • Certification from an approved certifying agency (CMA, RMA, or equivalent).
  • CPR certification required through American Heart Association or American Redcross
  • Minimum of (1) years of experience working in a clinical setting, with at least one (1) year in a pediatric environment strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and standard clinic equipment (vital signs monitors, autoclaves, etc.).
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work independently or as part of a team.
