Simulation Engineer Lead

Position Overview:

Our Clients Digital Center of Excellence Data Science team is seeking a Simulation Engineer Lead. The person in this role will report to the Director of Data Science. This role will be responsible for building, managing and growing a team of Simulation Engineers. Additionally, this role will set up standards, governance and processes for the Simulation workflows.

Our Client has been using advanced simulation models since 2018. These models have made a big impact and we want to continue and increase their contribution throughout the company. This role will get a green field opportunity to shape a new capability practice within the Customer.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and grow a team of Simulation Engineers
  • Create standards and best practices for re-usable, integrated and automated simulation models that provide ongoing value
  • Design, plan and build reusable and complex simulations to solve ongoing business questions
  • Lead design and creation of re-usable libraries (machines, business processes…)
  • Communicate results of model to non-technical resources through various means, including design and development of intuitive UI
  • Collaborate with the data science team to coordinate work, being the go-between for simulation vs machine learning models
  • Translate and interpret findings from models into operational activities for broader organization
  • Promote data driven decision making and advanced analytics techniques at our Client

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • 2-4 years of simulation modelling, process engineering, automation, or operations experience
  • 1-2 years of experience leading/managing or mentoring technical resources
  • Experience is defining standards, best practices and designing re-usable libraries
  • Experience/practice with Simulation software, e.g., AnyLogic (preferred), Arena, FlexSim, Simio, Gama, Simul8, MATLAB
  • Experience in both discrete event and agent-based simulation methods along with ability to run optimizations. Ability to customize simulations using user defined functions in Java or Python is essential
  • Familiarity with software combining simulation models with other advanced analytical models
  • Technical degree in engineering, mathematics, statistics or related discipline
  • Ability to apply critical thinking and work on a team to solve complex problems
  • Should have an understanding of statistical analysis techniques and ability to think in a probabilistic way

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with analysis tools such as Excel, PowerBI, MiniTab, Python
  • Expertise on data engineering and database management systems, e.g., MS SQL
  • Master’s degree or other advanced degree
  • Experience in metals manufacturing, particularly in the areas of process, quality reliability, and supply chain would be valuable
