About the Role
Are you a Licensed Land Surveyor (PLS) in New Jersey or close to it? This is a unique chance to grow into a Survey Department Manager role over the next 12–18 months. The current department lead is planning for retirement and is open to mentoring someone who will take the reins in the near future.
This role can flex between field and office work depending on your strengths, but understanding field operations is non-negotiable, the company emphasizes real-world surveying expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Run or support survey crews on a mix of land development and utility projects
- Mentor junior staff and guide projects in the field
- Coordinate with engineers and clients on scope, timelines, and deliverables
- Support or lead the transition of departmental leadership
- Use and train others on Leica robotic total stations, GPS, drones, and field software
Qualifications
- New Jersey PLS (or on track within 12 months)
- 5+ years of progressive survey experience
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot Leica robotic and GPS systems
- Comfortable mentoring others and gradually assuming management duties
- Entrepreneurial mindset a plus
