Sterling Search, Inc. has been exclusively retained to recruit for two positions for Director of Development at California State University, Stanislaus.

The beautiful 228-acre beautiful campus is located in Turlock and is widely recognized for its dedicated faculty and high-qualify academic programs. It is comprised of four colleges offering 43 undergraduate major programs, 16 masters programs, one doctoral program and seven credential programs.The university also has a satellite campus in the city of Stockton.

During her nine-year tenure with CSU Stanislaus, Dr. Michele Lahti, Vice President for University Advancement, has made significant strides in building strong community and business partnerships, which has led to substantial increases in private, corporate, and foundation giving. Combining extensive professional experience with a scholarly interest in university-based development, community relations, and communications, Dr. Lahti is a uniquely qualified and perceptive higher education leader. Dr. Lahti is now expanding her development team, with a vision of increasing philanthropic support to benefit the students, academic endeavors, and public-private partnerships of Stanislaus State.Recruiting two enthusiastic and mission-focused Directors of Development is one of her top priorities.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Development, these Directors of Development will identify, engage, solicit, and steward alumni, friends, corporations and foundations which have the capacity to contribute to California State University, Stanislaus. The Directors will actively participate in the management process of moving gifts to closure. The Directors will provide leadership and coordination to the campus in approaching major gift donors, and they will work closely with university leaders and other members of the University Advancement team. The Directors of Development will be responsible for developing initiatives aimed at growing the prospect pipeline.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 150 prospects.
  • Cultivate and solicit philanthropic support by developing and maintaining long-term relationships with assigned prospects.
  • Identify new prospects and integrate them into the established cultivation process.
  • Nurture a culture of philanthropic support with a focus on Stanislaus State’s strategic plan.
  • Carry out the fundraising priorities of the university.
  • Represent the university at community and regional events for cultivation and stewardship purposes.
  • Give updates to leaders regarding potential gifts.
  • Maximize utilization of tools and resources provided to document and analyze fundraising activities.
  • Work with faculty, administrators and other campus staff to gather research and data to prepare compelling oral and written proposals.
  • Generate planned and deferred gifts in support of Stanislaus State University.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience in fund development and operations in higher education.
  • Working knowledge of Blackbaud database management site.
