Superintendent – Healthcare Construction (Ground-Up Projects)

Location: San Diego, CA (On-Site)

Position Overview:

Our client, a full-service general contractor known for its innovative approach to building, is seeking an experienced Superintendent to oversee healthcare construction projects. This role will focus on managing ground-up construction projects within the healthcare sector, ensuring the successful completion of healthcare facilities that meet the highest safety, quality, and regulatory standards.

As a Superintendent for healthcare construction, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of construction sites, ensuring that all aspects of the project are executed on time, within budget, and in compliance with healthcare regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • On-Site Leadership: Manage day-to-day operations for healthcare construction projects, ensuring goals for safety, quality, cost, and schedule are met.
  • Pre-Construction Services: Collaborate with the project team to prepare the site, organize schedules, and coordinate resources for healthcare projects.
  • Team Coordination: Work with the Project Manager and VP of Operations to ensure appropriate staffing and resource allocation specific to healthcare construction needs.
  • Budget & Schedule Management: Monitor project finances, including budget analysis, job margin tracking, and change order management. Ensure the project stays on time and within budget.
  • Healthcare-Specific Compliance: Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, building codes, and healthcare-specific standards (e.g., infection control, safety protocols).
  • Supervision: Oversee construction personnel and subcontractors, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently while maintaining the high standards required for healthcare environments.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that construction work complies with healthcare facility requirements, including strict regulatory standards for safety, sanitation, and infection control.
  • Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Lead safety meetings and enforce strict adherence to OSHA guidelines, healthcare-specific safety protocols, and regulatory standards.
  • Client & Stakeholder Communication: Maintain positive relationships with clients, architects, healthcare facility representatives, and subcontractors. Provide regular updates on project status.
  • Project Close-Out: Oversee project close-out, ensuring all healthcare facility requirements are met, all punch lists are completed, and the handover is smooth and compliant with healthcare standards.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5+ years as a Superintendent with a focus on healthcare construction, particularly ground-up projects in the healthcare sector (OSHPD/HCAI experience is a must have).
  • Healthcare Construction Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of healthcare facility construction requirements, including infection control, safety standards, and regulatory compliance.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and manage diverse teams, including subcontractors and vendors, in the complex healthcare construction environment.
  • Construction Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction methods, safety regulations, and scheduling specific to healthcare facilities.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Deep understanding of healthcare regulations, including OSHA guidelines, infection control practices, and healthcare-specific construction standards.
  • Project Management Tools: Proficiency in construction management software (Procore, Buildertrend, etc.) and scheduling tools (Primavera).
  • Education: A degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field is preferred, but not required.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills to effectively work with healthcare clients, architects, and all project stakeholders.
