Role Overview
We’re seeking a Heavy Civil Estimator with strong earthwork experience to join a growing Pittsburgh-based estimating team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a well-established, forward-thinking GC known for tackling complex infrastructure and site development projects across Pennsylvania and surrounding regions.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience estimating mass excavation, grading, utilities, and sitework, with a solid understanding of heavy civil construction practices. Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed cost estimates for earthwork, site utilities, foundations, and heavy civil projects.
Perform quantity takeoffs using HCSS HeavyBid and other estimating software.
Analyze project plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports to identify potential risks and value engineering opportunities.
Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitive pricing.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field operations to align estimates with production means and methods.
Participate in bid reviews, proposal development, and preconstruction planning.
Maintain cost databases, historical records, and benchmark information for future projects.
Qualifications
Minimum 2+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil or earthwork construction.
Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid required; experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or similar tools a plus.
Strong understanding of site grading, excavation, underground utilities, and mass earthmoving operations.
Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and survey data.
Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred (experience may substitute).
Based in or open to relocating to Pittsburgh, PA.
