Director Multifamily Development - Preferred Equity/ Mezzanine Loan Originator

The Role

 

The Director/ Multifamily Development Preferred Equity Loan Originator will support Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) preferred equity origination efforts in the Multifamily Development space. The candidate will make contact with developers and/or their agents and work closely with other departments on analysis, processing, closings and business strategy. Candidate must have superb communication skills, the ability to persuasively articulate REIT’s value proposition, and demonstrate an understanding of the multifamily development market.

Responsibilities

 

  • Sourcing and originating preferred equity business in the multifamily development space
  • Maintain existing relationships and develop new relationships with developers, lenders, and mortgage brokers
  • Screening of potential investments for the platform, utilizing a sound understanding of underwriting guidelines to determine if investment opportunities fit the platform
  • Act as the client’s central point of contact during the origination process
  • Work productively with partners (clients), brokers (clients) and internal underwriters, capital market professionals, and senior management to structure and close transactions
  • Prioritize assignment to deliver expected work-product on a timely basis

 

Requirements

 

  • Undergraduate College degree with a preference for a focus in finance and/or business finance, business, or project coordination experience is preferred
  • 5 to 10 years originating loans and/or joint venture equity in the multifamily space, preferably working with multifamily developers
  • Proven track record of success in sourcing and closing
  • Established network of developers, lenders, and mortgage brokers is preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of and exposure to credit analysis, underwriting and commercial real estate lending
  • Ability to work in a highly paced and dynamic environment
  • Knowledge of CRE lending criteria and overall market requirements as well as ability to analyze cash flows and real estate business plans
  • Willingness to travel for client engagement
