In this role, you’ll guide clients through insightful planning analyses, learn to deliver impactful recommendations, and help clients realize their life visions. We’re looking for a proactive, process-oriented professional who’s organized, able to juggle multiple priorities, and responds to clients in a consistently timely manner. High client service standards are a must. We don’t anticipate that you’ll bring any clients—you’ll be engaged with both new and existing clients of the firm. Additionally, business development and people management are not part of the role, though we do offer career tracks for those who excel at or want to grow in those areas.

Client Management

  • Act as a support advisor for clients who work with other Values Added advisors, contributing to all aspects of the planning process and also helping some clients transition to seeing you as their primary advisor over time
  • Be ready to act as lead planner on new relationships within 6-24 months of hire, overseeing onboarding, then the delivery of the annual service calendar and ongoing review meetings
  • Collaborate with your advisory team to provide support to all team clients, stepping in as needed to lead meetings, act as a subject matter expert, answer client questions, and provide overall back-up
  • Discuss client values with them and understand common progressive concerns well enough to be meaningfully conversant and suggest financial planning and investment approaches that are responsive
  • Participate in the development of clients’ financial plans and delivery of client services. Lead on data gathering and initial analysis
  • Learn to lead meetings with prospective clients to help them learn about our work and mutually assess the fit
  • Conduct onboarding and ongoing maintenance work, delegating to the operations team as appropriate

Financial Planning & Advisory

  • Review and clarify the needs, goals, and financial objectives of clients and develop their financial plan
  • Build comprehensive plans as well as tax and investment presentations and recommendations that align with the personal and social impact financial goals and objectives of clients
  • Monitor the client’s financial situation and plan proactively to identify areas that need to be updated and addressed, then coordinate and/or complete delivery of those services based on the client's needs
  • Prepare investment recommendations based on a client’s risk tolerance, current financial situation and holdings, financial and social impact goals, and time horizon and in line with firm philosophies and models
  • Work with lead advisor to address all planning and investment-related advisory inquiries from clients and/or delegate operational inquiries client service team
  • Keep clients apprised of portfolio status and progress
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with clients’ other professional advisors (i.e., accountants, lawyers, etc.)
  • Adhere to all compliance/risk procedures, follow firm policies and regulations, and protect the interests of the client and the firm at all times
  • Handle less complex client issues, planning advice, and analysis with limited supervision

Other Possible Duties

We encourage you to spend a reasonable portion of time exploring interests and growth beyond your primary role. This means that from time to time, you may be asked to support or lead a special project. If you have experience in a financial planning specialty (i.e. equity comp, solidarity economy, social impact investments, advanced tax planning for business owners, etc.) let us know—though this is not needed to apply.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

This position includes the following ideal skills and experience, but we encourage candidates who are capable of performing the role to apply.

  • 2+ years of industry experience, preferably in a financial-planning-focused RIA
  • Series 65 or its equivalent is required
  • CFP® professionals or candidates who have passed the CFP® exam preferred, but we encourage strong applicants earlier on the path to their CFP® certification to apply
  • Strong listening and relationship-management skills, emotional intelligence, and effective verbal and written communication are essential for client interactions
  • Solid project management and process orientation are crucial
  • Ability to quickly adapt and manage new client relationships and planning with minimal supervision.
  • Must be organized, manage time effectively, and follow established procedures.
  • Attention to detail is required for organizing data, performing calculations, and preparing reports with charts.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional growth and development.
  • Proficient in Google Suite, especially Google Mail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides (this is quickly learned for someone proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Experience with and proficiency in platforms similar to our core systems (Schwab, Wealthbox, RightCapital, Holistiplan, etc.) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with progressive justice issues (economic, social, feminist, environmental, etc.) is strongly preferred.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The associate financial advisor W-2 position includes a base salary of $65,000-$87,000 along with a 15% team success bonus to begin upon the completion of your onboarding process (generally 90 days). That brings your core compensation to $75,000-$100,000. CFP® professionals with 4+ years of experience who are close to leading client relationships may be offered compensation above this range.

You would additionally receive a $500/month health care subsidy, paid time off, and an employer retirement contribution. You will receive 24 sick/PTO days, 3 volunteer days, and paid federal holidays. Additionally, the firm covers up to $3,000 for professional development, training, and conference attendance to support your growth and development within the firm and industry.

We are a flexible workplace. Our team members take time off to attend to their health, care for family members, attend children’s recitals (no matter how mediocre), take vacations, and more. Though some of our work must happen at specific times, to the extent we can and the results are successful, we provide flexible hours and schedules. Our team members have thrived professionally in a variety of family situations including without children, with young children, and with older ones.
