Software Design Engineer in Test (SDET)

Team Red Dog is seeking a Software Design Engineer in Test (SDET) to support our Fortune 100 technology leader client, helping strengthen Windows Storage and File Systems reliability through advanced test development, debugging, and automation in a large-scale OS environment. This is a hybrid contract role with the opportunity to work from home and also with a team in Redmond, Washington.

Top Required Skills (Must Haves):

  1. Strong C and C++ development and debugging experience (minimum three years), applied in test or product engineering environments.
  2. PowerShell scripting used to automate testing workflows and improve test coverage and reliability.
  3. Experience identifying, c and resolving software quality issues across complex systems.

You’ll help modernize legacy test infrastructure, strengthen quality signals, and build hands-on technical expertise in file systems, storage components, and OS-level engineering. How you will make an impact:
• Execute and maintain test plans, test scenarios, and automation programs
• Review daily test runs and triage failures to separate true product bugs from test defects
• Debug, fix, and convert legacy tests into modern frameworks
• Reduce test noise and improve system reliability signals
• Track and follow up on high-impact issues with development partners
• Document and report software defects using internal systems
• Support test planning and scheduling aligned to release milestones
• Maintain defect databases and monitor resolution status

The expertise you bring:
• Associate’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field
• 5–6+ years of software engineering and testing experience
• Strong experience with C, C++, and C#
• Scripting experience (PowerShell preferred)
• Experience writing and executing test documentation (test plans, results reports, etc.)
• Ability to analyze and interpret test results to recommend improvements
