Team Red Dog is looking for a Data Scientist to support one of our clients, a data and analytics innovator, on a high-impact role supporting the Mojang Player Data and Insights team. This is an exciting opportunity for a data-driven professional who thrives on turning complex player support and engagement data into actionable insights that directly influence strategy, player experience, and business outcomes across a globally recognized gaming franchise. This long-term contract role is hybrid, with 3 days a week in Redmond, Washington.

Top Required Skills (Must Haves):

  1. Advanced data analytics experience (5+ years) with a strong foundation in statistical analysis and problem solving, applied to large, complex datasets to generate actionable insights.
  2. Strong SQL expertise (5+ years), with experience querying and manipulating data across enterprise data platforms; familiarity with SparkSQL, Databricks, or Azure Data Explorer is a plus.
  3. Dashboarding and data visualization experience (2+ years), with hands-on use of PowerBI to build, maintain, and enhance business-facing dashboards for self-service insights.
  4. Proficiency in Python for data analysis, with the ability to conduct exploratory analysis, build repeatable workflows, and clearly communicate results.

Opportunity Overview:
This role offers the chance to work at the intersection of data science, player experience, and business strategy within the Minecraft ecosystem. You will collaborate closely with Player Care, data engineering, and cross-functional partners to surface insights that improve player support experiences and connect out-of-game interactions to in-game outcomes. The role provides exposure to a wide variety of data challenges, meaningful stakeholder engagement, and opportunities to influence decision-making across marketing, consumer products, and player engagement initiatives.

How you will make an impact:
• Partner with the Player Care team and data engineering to transform player support data into actionable insights.
• Analyze player support interactions to identify trends, pain points, and opportunities for improvement.
• Synthesize analytical findings into clear, data-driven recommendations for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Collaborate with other data scientists to incorporate player support insights into broader franchise and business analyses.
• Conduct ad-hoc and planned analyses for marketing and consumer products stakeholders, including evaluating ROI of out-of-game initiatives and their impact on in-game metrics.
• Work independently on ambiguous projects involving incomplete or messy data, delivering high-quality results on defined timelines.
• Maintain and enhance PowerBI dashboards that enable stakeholders to understand key business and player care metrics.
• Manipulate and analyze high-volume, high-dimensional data from multiple sources using a variety of analytical tools and techniques.

The expertise you bring:
• 5+ years of experience in data analytics or data science roles.
• 5+ years of experience working with SQL; exposure to SparkSQL, Databricks, or Azure Data Explorer is a plus.
• 2+ years of experience building and maintaining dashboards using PowerBI or similar visualization tools.
• Strong Python proficiency for data analysis; experience with PySpark is a bonus.
• Experience working collaboratively in fast-paced, cross-functional environments.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
• Strong verbal, visual, and written communication skills for presenting insights clearly and effectively.
• Interest in gaming; prior experience in the gaming industry is a plus.
• Ability to work a hybrid schedule and be onsite three days per week in the Seattle area.

What makes a candidate highly successful in this role:
Successful candidates are highly self-driven, comfortable navigating ambiguity, and skilled at translating complex data into meaningful stories that drive action. They proactively engage stakeholders, ask the right questions, and deliver insights that are both analytically sound and practically impactful. A passion for games, curiosity about player behavior, and a collaborative mindset help top performers stand out in this role.
