Team Red Dog is seeking a Software Database Engineer to support our client, a global technology leader, in a hands-on SQL performance engineering role focused on validating database performance across new hardware platforms and software releases. This hybrid (Redmond, WA) opportunity is ideal for early-career software engineers with strong programming fundamentals in C, C#, and PowerShell who are eager to deepen their expertise in SQL internals, performance diagnostics, and Windows-based systems within an enterprise-scale environment.

 

Top Required Skills (Must Haves):

  1. SQL performance testing and diagnostics – experience running performance tests, analyzing results, identifying regressions, and generating clear technical reports.
  2. Programming in C, C#, and/or PowerShell – hands-on scripting and coding to automate testing, support diagnostics, and resolve performance issues.
  3. Windows OS experience – familiarity with Windows-based environments and system-level troubleshooting.
  4. Foundational computer science knowledge – understanding of performance concepts, system architecture, and problem-solving methodologies.

 

Opportunity Overview:
This role offers the chance to work alongside experienced SQL performance engineers on long-running, high-impact initiatives that validate performance stability for new processor technologies and cloud-based releases. You will gain exposure to SQL internals, Azure and cloud technologies, and advanced performance engineering practices while strengthening your programming and analytical skills in a collaborative, learning-focused environment.

How you will make an impact:
• Execute SQL performance tests on new hardware and software releases
• Analyze performance results and identify regressions or stability issues
• Generate reports and present findings to lead engineers
• Collaborate closely with developers to troubleshoot and resolve performance concerns
• Perform scripting and automation using C, C#, and PowerShell
• Participate in daily or twice-daily scrum calls to provide updates and surface blockers
• Follow structured test plans and contribute to continuous performance improvements

The expertise you bring:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field required
• 0–2 years of experience in software development or performance engineering
• 2+ years of experience with C, C#, and/or PowerShell
• 2+ years of experience working in Windows OS environments
• Experience with SQL performance concepts and regression analysis preferred
• Strong analytical thinking and structured problem-solving ability
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and work effectively within a team
