Our client, a well-established title insurance company, is seeking a detail-oriented Title Insurance Underwriter with strong expertise in New York and New Jersey real estate transactions.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and approving title documentation to ensure insurability and legal compliance across complex residential and commercial real estate transactions in NY and NJ. This is a hybrid role, offering flexibility while maintaining a high level of accuracy and communication.

Responsibilities:

  • Examine title searches, legal documents, and property records to assess and clear title issues by NY and NJ regulations.
  • Underwrite title insurance policies for residential and commercial properties, ensuring compliance with legal standards and internal underwriting guidelines.
  • Identify and evaluate risks associated with real estate transactions and recommend appropriate endorsements or exceptions.
  • Communicate with attorneys, title agents, lenders, and other stakeholders to resolve title defects and confirm transaction readiness.
  • Stay current with state-specific laws and changes in title insurance regulations across New York and New Jersey.
  • Prepare and issue title commitments and final policies with accurate documentation and clear terms.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support closings, address client inquiries, and ensure a smooth underwriting process.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement by identifying workflow inefficiencies and proposing practical solutions.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience as a title underwriter, with specific expertise in both New York and New Jersey real estate markets.
  • In-depth knowledge of NY & NJ title laws, underwriting procedures, and real estate closing practices.
  • Familiarity with underwriting platforms and title software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate title issues and assess insurability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for liaising with clients, attorneys, and internal teams.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple files and meet deadlines in a hybrid work environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
