BSA Officer

Position Description:

The best Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Officer is a self-reliant, proactive individual with proficient BSA knowledge, gained through a combination of education and experience. They serve as a BSA subject matter expert and information resource, conducting training to all business lines and mentor less experienced staff and new hires. They are flexible and work best in a fast-paced environment with many interruptions. They are known for their accurate tactical and investigative skills. Plus, they must maintain composure during high workload times and the highest level of confidentiality with all information obtained. The BSA Officer is always willing to work hard and stays current with regulatory changes. Potential to work remotely based on business needs and on a case-by-case basis.


The BSA Officer develops, implements, administers, and maintains all aspects of the bank’s Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Compliance Program. He/she ensures the program functions at a high level of compliance with the BSA/AML related laws and regulations, internal policies, and Federal regulatory expectations. The BSA Officer is required to be fully knowledgeable and skilled in all areas of BSA/AML compliance and to independently recognize, develop, and implement effective compliance related solutions for the BSA/AML program. He/she will be responsible for gathering information and responding to external auditors and regulatory agencies during BSA examinations.

Performance Objectives

  • Within the first 30 days, the BSA Officer will become familiar with the bank’s BSA program.
  • Next level tasks and overall regulation knowledge: The BSA Officer will become proficient with the bank’s systems and technology, such as Abrigo and Insight, within first 90 days.
  • Trusted resource & training programs: Within the first 6 months, the BSA Officer will be regarded as a trusted resource to employees to assist with their daily compliance needs. A focus on becoming fully engaged in the bank’s compliance culture and acting as a positive representative of the department will be continuous for the first several months. The BSA Officer will also begin to partner with employees to create and own all BSA compliance training programs, including new employee training, all employee training day and annual compliance training requirements.


Associate Degree with BSA background is preferred but willing to look at the right candidate with previous BSA background and two to five years’ experience. A High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
