CNC Programmer Job Description

Position Overview:
The CNC Programmer is responsible for creating CNC machine tool programs using CAD/CAM software for milled and turned parts, ensuring efficient manufacturing processes and optimal part quality. This role requires proficiency in G-Code programming and 2D/3D CAD drafting software, as well as a strong understanding of machining methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Programming and Design:

  • Create CNC programs for a variety of milled and turned parts using CAD/CAM software.
  • Utilize G-Code programming and 2D/3D CAD drafting to optimize part production.

• Machining Efficiency:

  • Determine the most efficient machining methods for CNC machine tools.
  • Specify and select appropriate tooling and fixturing for part manufacturing.

• Production Coordination:

  • Create detailed setup sheets and collaborate with machine operators to optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Monitor and prioritize projects to ensure timely delivery of parts to the assembly floor.
  • Maintain a priority system on the shop floor to ensure urgent jobs are completed first.

• Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work with engineering teams to review and optimize designs for manufacturability.
  • Provide manufacturing details to support production processes and address unique job requirements.
  • Participate in production meetings to align priorities and address challenges.

• Quality and Cost Optimization:

  • Evaluate materials, methods, and machinery, recommending changes to improve quality and reduce costs.
  • Ensure fiscal responsibility by optimizing manufacturing processes for cost efficiency.

• Customer Support:

  • Assist the customer service department with lead time and cost information as needed.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated expertise in CNC programming and manufacturing engineering.
• Proficiency in CAD/CAM software, G-Code programming, and 2D/3D drafting tools.
• Strong knowledge of machining methodologies, tooling, and fixturing.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with engineering, operators, and production teams.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
