Position Summary

The Maintenance Planner is responsible for ensuring all maintenance activities are planned, scheduled, and executed efficiently using SAP as the CMMS platform. This role supports increased equipment reliability, reduced downtime, and optimal use of labor and materials. The Maintenance Planner works closely with Maintenance Technicians, Engineering, Production, and Inventory teams to drive world-class maintenance processes across the Alabama operations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Work Order Management (SAP)

- Create, plan, and prioritize preventive, predictive, and corrective work orders within SAP.

- Review incoming work requests for accuracy, scope, parts needs, and safety requirements.

- Ensure work orders contain clear job steps, required tools, estimated labor, and documentation.

- Close completed work orders with accurate data entry and technician feedback.

 

2. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance

- Develop and maintain PM/PdM routines.

- Optimize PM frequencies using SAP data and failure trends.

- Coordinate predictive technologies as needed.

 

3. Scheduling & Coordination

- Build weekly and daily maintenance schedules.

- Coordinate manpower assignments.

- Communicate downtime and urgent work to Production and Engineering.

 

4. Materials & Parts Planning

- Identify required spare parts and maintain SAP BOMs.

- Work with Inventory to stage parts.

- Track parts availability and lead times.

 

5. CMMS Data Accuracy (SAP)

- Maintain accurate equipment records, hierarchies, BOMs, and task lists.

- Ensure maintenance KPIs are accurate.

- Support SAP utilization across the maintenance team.

 

6. Continuous Improvement

- Analyze downtime and history to identify chronic issues.

- Develop countermeasures and reliability improvements.

- Support capital projects and new equipment installations.

 

7. Safety & Compliance

- Ensure planned work orders include safety requirements.

- Support audits and OSHA compliance.

 

Required Qualifications

- 3+ years of experience in industrial maintenance or planning.

- Strong working knowledge of SAP PM.

- Understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.

- Ability to read blueprints and technical manuals.

- Strong communication and organization skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in metal fabrication or automated machinery.

- RCM or TPM experience.

- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.

- Certifications such as CMRP or CRE.

 

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

- PM completion rate ≥ 95%

- Technician wrench time ≥ 60%

- Reduction in unplanned downtime

- Schedule compliance ≥ 85%

- Work order backlog within limits

- Work order close-out within 48 hours
