The Quality Manager position includes charting, analyzing, documenting cause, effect, and solutions. The Quality Manager will work closely with customers regarding any concerns they have as a result of defects. The position requires accurate, timely, and consistent testing of metal processes.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for duties including accurate chemistries of the mechanical properties to meet required specs
Control of processes used in molding
Control of raw materials, supplier audits
Utilize and operate quality testing equipment such as Spectrometer, Microscope, Brinell Hardness
Maintain an ISO certifiable quality/business system
Manage internal quality audits and complete customer requested quality audits
Liaison with customers both internal and external regarding corrective actions and process changes
Communicate timely and accurate data to customer working to resolve scrap defects
Responsible for providing technical support to managers and supervisors of operations
Continuously monitor and make improvements to reduce scrap defects related to metal

Requirements
Job Specifications
BS Materials Science degree, Metallurgist preferred
Minimum 5 years management experience, heavy metal experience preferred
Excellent communication skills (writing, listening, and speaking)
Must be able to use and understand Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
Supervise employees in the Quality Assurance department. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies. Plan, assign and direct work of the department.
Inspect the cleaning processes to ensure good quality are produced.
Inspect all scrap to determine the cause and implement corrective actions as appropriate.
Report Cost of Poor Quality (scrap/rework/repair) data daily in the morning meeting.
Review sand data trends. Report any abnormalities.
Ensure measuring and test equipment are calibrated at required intervals. Oversee maintenance of Calibration Log.
Direct department employees engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, and products. Conduct training as needed.
Plan, promote and organize training activities related to product quality and reliability.
Work with Engineering to develop and analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of finished product.
Ensure that the requirements of ISO 9001 are implemented and maintained.
Develop Internal Audit schedule and conduct internal audits.
Formulate and maintain quality control objectives and coordinate objectives with production procedures in cooperation with plant managers to maximize product reliability and minimize costs.
Investigate and adjust customer complaints regarding quality. Conduct Root Cause Corrective Actions.
Interpret procedures, specifications, and drawings. Develop and improve techniques. Author and approve procedures applicable to the method of certification.
Develop and maintain all ISO 9001 procedures.
Work with engineering to develop and maintain work instructions/standard work.
Carry out all duties and responsibilities with an emphasis on safety and quality to ensure all castings inspected meet customer expectations.
Conduct the Production Parts Approval Process (PPAP) for numerous customer’s quote/purchase order quality requirements.
Perform any and all other job-related tasks as assigned.
Position Qualifications & Competencies
Prior leadership experience in a manufacturing environment. Lean manufacturing and/or 5S experience preferred.
Ability to analyze and correlate data quickly and effectively.
Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Interpreting an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and with several abstract and concrete variables.
Ability and familiarity with reading blueprints, technical specs, ISO requirements and other related specification documents.
Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing processes.
Respond quickly to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Skills & Experience
Education: Bachelors or Associates degree in a related discipline (Quality Management, Mathematics, etc) and/or equivalent work experience.
Experience: A minimum of three to five years’ experience manufacturing preferred.
