Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated 3rd Shift Maintenance Supervisor to lead our night shift maintenance team with a strong emphasis on Lean Manufacturing principles. In this role, you will oversee all maintenance activities during third shift operations, ensuring optimal equipment uptime, preventative maintenance execution, and rapid response to equipment issues. You will also be responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives, applying Lean methodologies such as 5S, TPM, and root cause analysis to improve reliability, reduce waste, and optimize operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Shift Leadership:Supervise and support the night shift maintenance team, ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with operational priorities.
Assign daily work orders, monitor progress, and maintain shift reports.
Serve as the primary point of contact for all third shift maintenance concerns.
Oversee preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance activities for all plant equipment and systems.
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues to minimize downtime.
Champion Lean initiatives including 5S, TPM, visual management, and root cause analysis.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement projects focused on reducing downtime and enhancing efficiency.
Participate in and lead Kaizen events and value stream mapping exercises related to maintenance processes.
Manage critical spare parts and maintenance supply inventory to prevent equipment delays while avoiding excess stock.
Support CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) usage to schedule, track, and report maintenance activities.
Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols and regulatory compliance.
Promote a culture of safety awareness and proactive risk mitigation among the team.
Maintain clear communication with other shifts, production teams, and engineering to ensure seamless operations.
Provide end-of-shift reports and participate in shift handoff meetings.
Key Lean Activities Involved:
5S: Organize the workspace to eliminate waste and improve accessibility.
TPM: Engage operators in proactive maintenance tasks to improve equipment reliability.
Root Cause Analysis: Investigate failure causes and implement lasting solutions.
Value Stream Mapping: Analyze and optimize maintenance process flows to reduce inefficiencies.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or certification in maintenance, engineering, or related field preferred.
Experience:
5+ years of hands-on maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment
3+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience, preferably on off-shifts
Technical Knowledge:
Strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting skills
Experience using a CMMS platform for work order management and reporting
Lean Knowledge:
Proven experience implementing Lean Manufacturing tools and continuous improvement projects
Leadership:
Excellent team leadership, coaching, and communication skills
Ability to motivate a night shift team and foster accountability and performance
Safety Awareness: Deep understanding of OSHA standards and plant safety requirements
