Tooling Engineer

Position Purpose
The Tooling Engineer is responsible for developing and managing tooling projects from order through delivery. This role works closely with Engineering, Quality, and Operations to ensure successful tooling launches that achieve high first-pass yield and meet all customer requirements.

Essential Duties

  • Design, simulate, sample, and maintain foundry tooling, including patterns, core boxes, fixtures, and gages

  • Utilize customer-supplied part geometry and specifications to meet design and quality requirements

  • Apply a strong understanding of foundry processes, particularly green sand molding

  • Maintain a basic understanding of ductile iron metallurgy

  • Develop detailed CAD layouts for new patterns and core boxes

  • Maintain and update customer web portals to support accurate and timely data transitions

  • Coordinate with external tooling vendors, including quoting, project management, and inspection of received tooling

  • Design and create drawings for CNC machining fixtures across multiple machining cells

  • Read and interpret customer blueprints

  • Assist with tooling and part layout/measurement using CMM and 3D scanning equipment

  • Support foundry sampling programs with a hands-on approach when required

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills / Abilities

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • SolidWorks or similar CAD software experience required

  • Advanced knowledge of GD&T

  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs

  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed

  • Comfortable working in high-temperature manufacturing environments

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Professional demeanor and workplace etiquette

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Foundry experience preferred

  • Working knowledge of APQP and PPAP (automotive) desired

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in CNC machining or a related manufacturing environment
