Minimum Education: Bachelor’s
Professional License: EIT or PE (a plus)
Minimum experience: 4-16 years
Certification: Certified Bridge Safety Inspector (a plus)
Position Summary
The Structural Engineer will be responsible for performing structural analysis, design, and review for transportation infrastructure projects, including bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and sign structures. The role involves close collaboration with designers, engineers, and technicians and may expand into lead responsibilities based on experience.
Projects support public agency clients and require a strong understanding of applicable design standards and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and/or review structural calculations, reports, sketches, cost estimates, and complete design documents
Ensure compliance with applicable design standards and criteria
Coordinate with and oversee CADD technicians; review drawings for accuracy and compliance
Identify design challenges and develop effective engineering solutions
Review shop drawings and consultant designs for conformance with contract documents and standards
Coordinate design elements with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders
Participate in design meetings and professional industry events as needed
Serve as a lead engineer on assigned tasks as experience allows
Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education & Credentials
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (required)
EIT or PE license (preferred)
Certified Bridge Safety Inspector (preferred)
Experience
4–16 years of structural engineering experience
Technical Skills
Experience with transportation-related structural design
Working knowledge of PennDOT design manuals and standards
Proficiency with Bentley MicroStation and transportation design software
