Senior Research and Development Manager

We are a materials science company creating cutting-edge products for

aerospace, defense, and energy,  seeking a highly motivated and experienced R&D Manager to

support and conduct interdisciplinary research in the fields of polymer and materials chemistry

and nanoscience.

The Senior Research & Development Manager will play a key leadership role within a fast-paced

hands-on industrial environment. This position requires a deep understanding of experimental

design and technical problem-solving, as well as a strong commitment to safety and productivity.

You will be responsible for laboratory support of our industrial scale-up processes and products

while solving complex technical challenges, ensuring the efficient operation of the lab, and leading

projects from concept to completion.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Review equipment, facilities, and safety requirements for buildout of a process support and

testing laboratory leading to the implementation of plans to equip and stand-up operations

in a new laboratory space.

• Prepare and review standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory operations

• Provide labor, equipment, and material estimates for processing/testing work required to

support current and future projects.

• Oversee experimental execution and analysis, ensuring robust data collection and successful project outcomes while ensuring high productivity, quality, and safety.

• Develop and manage air-free chemistry processes, including the design and operation of

gloveboxes, air-free reactors, Swagelok fittings, and specialized air-free glassware setups.

• Apply scientific principles to safely process energetic materials for screening, product development, or improvement.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project milestones and deadlines while

maintaining high standards of professionalism.

• Mentor and guide junior researchers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work

environment.

• Ensure compliance with safety protocols, industry regulations, and best practices in laboratory operations.

Minimum Qualifications

• PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related

field.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership or senior research role within a fast-paced

industrial setting.

• Extensive hands-on experience with experimental design and complex technical problemsolving.

• Proven experience with air-free chemistry.

• Strong safety mindset with a track record of promoting safety in laboratory settings.

• Ability to work independently, make critical decisions, and balance multiple projects

simultaneously.

• Hands-on experience with research & development and/or production support role.

• Must be an exclusive U.S. citizen
