This role involves developing, implementing, and optimizing welding processes—particularly MIG (GMAW) and resistance spot welding—and working closely with manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Establish welding process and quality parameters for MIG (GMAW) and resistance spot welding.
Define and maintain standards for weld quality and production performance.
Develop procedures and testing for destructive and non-destructive weld testing (e.g., macro etch, fillet break, tension & bend testing).
Collaborate with Design, Manufacturing Engineering, and Prototype teams for manufacturability improvements.
Design and implement robotic/automated welding systems and fixtures.
Analyze and improve existing welding processes for efficiency and cost savings.
Conduct weld lobe studies and manage weld consumables and spare parts.
Support metallurgical studies and ensure dimensional capability in welding operations.
Develop and maintain weld training and preventative maintenance programs.
Participate in new product development with a focus on Design for Manufacturability.
Write capital expenditure proposals and cost justifications.
Ensure the implementation of fail-safe systems to prevent welding errors.
