Job Title: EMS Technician – Level III
Overview:
The EMS Technician – Level III serves as a senior-level expert in the energy management and building automation industry. This role is responsible for executing all tasks assigned to Levels I and II, while taking on advanced technical leadership, system integration, and project coordination responsibilities. The EMS Tech III works under the direction of a Project Manager and ensures all work aligns with the company’s Installation and Commissioning Standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Communication:
- Provide regular daily and weekly updates to the Project Manager, including progress milestones.
- Consistently enforce and adhere to company installation and commissioning standards on all projects.
- Thoroughly review and understand project Scope of Work (SOW), Submittals, and Sequences of Operation (SOOs).
- Independently compose professional documents and transmittals.
- Recognized as a respected leader by peers and team members.
- Effectively lead and follow through on project processes and timelines.
- Attend project meetings and represent the company professionally.
- Oversee subcontractor work and delegate tasks, corrections, and responsibilities as needed.
- Demonstrate high reliability and accountability for both personal and team assignments.
- Proactively lead team operations without direct instruction from the Project Manager.
- Stay current on new technologies and independently pursue learning opportunities.
Advanced Technical Knowledge:
- Fully understand and work with all types of central plants, including 2-pipe, 4-pipe, and decoupled systems.
- Configure and manage systems for central plants, hot water loops, and air handling units.
- Install and update the WebCTRL operating system, including service patches.
- Complete start-to-finish third-party system integrations.
- Proficient in Modbus, BACnet, and other company-supported control protocols.
- Implement system integrations such as global points, requests, optimal start/stop, and LAN shutdowns.
- Troubleshoot complex logic using GFB, program editing, and graphic customization.
- Validate SOOs as specified in project documentation and per customer direction.
- Install clippings and logic blocks where applicable.
- Diagnose and configure network devices based on manufacturer specifications.
- Understand and apply networking concepts such as NAT, BBMDs, and router configurations.
- Train others and install lighting control systems including contactors, photocells, and functional blocks.
- Set up power monitoring systems and integrate with building controls.
- Install and configure refrigerant monitoring systems and related devices.
- Utilize XML Editor, Engineering Interface (EI), Energy Reports, and Fault Detection Diagnostics tools.
- Coordinate with other trades and subcontractors at a superintendent level.
- Supervise and mentor lower-level technicians across multiple projects, fostering skill development.
- Submit complete and accurate redline/as-built documentation immediately after project completion.
- Support Project Managers in tracking task completion within budgeted hours.
- Lead the commissioning team through the entire process, documenting and resolving system issues.
- Manage all project revisions and ensure project completion meets or exceeds standards.
- Oversee the retrieval and organization of all final project documentation and system backups.
- Conduct project site inspections independently or alongside the Project Manager.
