We are working with a growing Real Estate Private Equity client that is adding a Fund Controller to their Accounting and Finance Operations team. This organization recently closed on a new investment fund that is expanding their operations and they this Fund Controller to oversee the accounting and reporting for two investments fund.

A Fund Controller is a senior-level accounting professional responsible for the financial accounting and reporting of investment funds. They play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of a fund's financial information, as well as compliance with relevant regulations and accounting standards.
Here's a breakdown of the key responsibilities, qualifications, and skills associated with the Fund Controller role:
Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Preparing and reviewing financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Analyzing financial data and providing insights into fund performance.
- Developing and implementing accounting policies and procedures.
- Ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or other relevant accounting standards.
- Fund Accounting & Operations:
- Overseeing the calculation of Net Asset Value (NAV) and other key fund metrics.
- Managing capital calls, distributions, and investor allocations.
- Reconciling cash balances, bank statements, and investment positions.
- Monitoring fund expenses and ensuring proper expense allocation.
- Audit & Compliance:
- Coordinating with external auditors and managing the audit process.
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, such as those from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
- Preparing and reviewing regulatory filings.
- Team Leadership & Management:
- Supervising and mentoring fund accounting staff.
- Developing and implementing training programs for the team.
- Promoting a positive and collaborative work environment.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA certification is often preferred or required.
- Master's degree in Accounting or MBA is a plus.
- Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in fund accounting, investment management, or public accounting.
- Experience with different fund types (e.g., private equity, hedge funds, mutual funds) is beneficial.
- Big 4 public accounting experience is a plus.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and other relevant accounting standards.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with fund administration platforms like Investran is a plus.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
