Property Accountant Opportunity – Well-Known and Growing REIT (DC)

 

We are representing a well-established REIT based in the DMV area, looking to expand their team with a Property Accountant. Ideal candidates will have 2-3 years of experience in commercial or multifamily property accounting or a public accounting background within the real estate industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage general ledger functions for an assigned group of properties, including monthly closings.
  • Prepare and maintain supporting work papers and account analysis, including monthly closing checklists.
  • Review variance explanations, monthly accruals, and assist with the preparation of property annual budgets and operating expense reimbursements.
  • Collaborate with the Accounting Team, property managers (both on-site and off-site), auditors (external and internal), and tax preparers.
  • Assist with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Compliance Program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; Master’s degree and/or CPA preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum two years of professional accounting experience, ideally in public accounting or real estate.
  • Skills:
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize tasks, and manage time efficiently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and respond to constructive feedback.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High ethical standards and a good sense of humor.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with General Ledger software, preferably Yardi, is a plus.
