Hot Stamp Operator

Position Summary:

Support production by correct and safe operation of a hot metal stamping press.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist in set-up and operate equipment to harden, anneal and heat-treat metal parts.
  • Start the equipment, monitor their operations, and record operational data.
  • Performs first piece inspection and identifies in Plex conformance/non-conformance.
  • Follow production schedules to determine specifications, such as materials to be used, dimensions and tolerances, furnace temperatures and heat cycle requirements.
  • Inspect completed parts to verify conformance to specifications, using micrometers, gauges, calipers, etc.
  • Observe flow and unload/stock parts into containers.
  • Clean and lubricate machines.
  • Correctly identifies and handles non-conforming products.
  • Correctly handles and identifies scrap using Plex during and after production shift.
  • Correctly handles an identifies finished products using Plex.
  • Keep work area clean and well organized in a 5S manner.
  • Comply with all safety programs especially those related to production such as press guarding, lock/out personal protective equipment, fire and electrical safety, and hearing conservation.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work process, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
  • May assist in the training of other employees as indicated.

 

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED.

1-3 years of experience operating presses or in a related area.

 

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of Quality Control, Cost Reduction, Materials, and productions processes. English (grammar, language), Math. Knowledge of machine and tools.

Skills. Must be able to conduct tests and inspect parts for quality assurance. Use logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Good computer skills.

Abilities. The ability to focus attention is required for the monitoring of machine operation and performing quality inspection. Visual acuity is required for reading machine dials, work orders, precision measuring instruments and for performing visual/physical quality inspections. Ability to make arithmetical computations (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication). Ability to use Calipers and measuring tools. Ability to work safely without presenting direct threat to self or others. Must be able to operate all presses.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

Physical Demands:  The position is in the factory and involves walking, standing for long periods of time throughout the day. It requires being able to lift up to 50 pounds, and push/pull up to 75 pounds. Involves making continuous or repetitive arm-hand movements while operating a press. Stooping/bending/twisting is required on regular basis. Fast-paced environment, usually work standard 40-hour weeks, but overtime may be necessary as work load’s dictate. This may include weekdays, weekends and/or holidays.

 

Work Environments: Work performed in a shop environment and regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes and noise. It requires wearing personal protective or safety equipment. Requires working in non-air-conditioned variable temperature factory setting. Employees may be subject to random drug and alcohol testing under FAA regulations
