Senior Tax Accountant

$4B+ Private University— Baltimore, MD— $80-100K, no bonus

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field
  • Three years of progressively responsible related work experience. If a bachelor’s degree is in an unrelated field, four years of progressively responsible experience is required
  • Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Preparation and review of federal and state employment tax returns and/or tax remittances.
  • Preparation and review of state unemployment tax returns and/or remittances.
  • Review of federal and state correspondence related to employment and unemployment taxes and preparation of draft response letters for manager review.
  • Preparation of reports, account reconciliations, work papers and journal entries as part of the tax return preparation process.
  • Development and execution of analytical reviews designed to ensure accuracy and completeness of data sets related to employment taxes.
  • Employment record set-up and treaty facilitation for international students and scholars.
  • Providing tax technical support to various University stakeholders related to employment, tuition reporting, vendor reporting and nonresident tax reporting and withholding.
  • Tax research projects related to employment, tuition reporting, vendor reporting and nonresident tax reporting.
  • Identification and implementation of work process improvements.
  • Preparation of materials to inform administrators about various federal and state tax compliance related to their department.
  • Presentations to groups and individuals, providing information relating to special tax issues, such as residency status and international tax treaties.
  • Other special projects as assigned by the management team.
