Controller OR Assistant Controller for a well established, stable and large privately held B2B Company

Our Client is a well established, stable and large privately held B2B Company with a wide portfolio of commercial and government projects. They are seeking a proven Controller or Assistant Controller preferably with CPA to join their tenured leadership team. He/She will be responsible for assisting and supporting the Sr. Controller and the Chief Financial Officer [CFO] at its corporate headquarters in the San Gabriel Valley area. 

Scope of Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in guiding financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures
  • Assist in protecting assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls
  • Collect, interpret and report financial data
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
  • Comply with federal, state and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating new legislation, and advising management on needed actions
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Assist in ensuring bank reconciliations are completed timely and accurately
  • Assist in maintaining a system of controls over accounting transactions
  • Assist in issuing timely and complete financial statements
  • Support operations team as needed for job accounting and report needs
  • Field questions in all areas of accounting
  • Research job cost issues and allocations
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts
  • Create/Post recurring journal entries
  • Prepare work papers for audits
  • Assist in managing and supporting accounting staff. Mentor other staff members


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or related field
  • Preferences will be given to candidates with a Certified Public Accountant [CPA] or Certified Management Accountant [CMA]
  • Some public accounting experience a plus
  • 5+ years’ experience in the construction, engineering, aerospace & defense, manufacturing, building materials industry performing similar responsibilities a plus
  • Strong supervisory skills and ability to work and mentor in a team environment
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and family business
  • Strong organizational skills and takes accountability 
  • Strong attention to detail
