Sr Brake Engineer

Summary:

This position will execute and evaluate the technical development activities by being responsible for the technical interface, design, customer specifications, prototype and evaluation of brake subsystems and components. In addition, this position requires working with internal departments, customers, and suppliers to ensure proper subsystem and component development.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Assist in leading technical subsystem and component design and development and provide expertise to ensure the system, subsystem, and component level requirements and customer specifications are met. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    1. Ensure the program timing and engineering milestones are met through the technical development process. This includes serving as the main technical interface to the customer on assigned programs.
    2. Generate the necessary documentation of the technical development process to satisfy customer, APQP, or other requirements.
      1. DFMEA, DVP&R, Reports, Drawings, Test Data, other.
    3. Assist in leading mechanical design process, which includes supporting creation of 3D models and drawings, leading design analysis, leading design reviews, and leading resolution of technical issues.
    4. Assist in leading subsystem and component evaluation process by ensuring that all customer and internal test requirements are satisfied according to each program or project’s master schedule. This includes activities related to part procurement and preparation for testing, initiation of test requests, supporting resolution of scheduling conflicts, and providing technical assistance.
  2. Support customers by conducting presentations, supporting test trips, and attending meetings, as necessary.
  3. Support business expansion by providing technical support to the lead engineer and sales team or other product teams.
  4. Assist in conducting research into developing brake industry trends, including performing benchmark studies of parts and/or vehicles. Participate in technical conferences.
  5. Support Safety initiatives and, perform 5S and improvement activities.
  6. Support to manufacturing plant and other engineering departments as needed.
  7. Other special projects, tasks or duties as assigned by supervisor and/or management.

 

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

Some domestic or international travel may be required.

- Majority of work is performed in a typical office setting. Also, work in a laboratory and garage environment to support the brake system, subsystem, and component performance, is required.

- Additional working hours are required to meet deadlines, as necessary. Will be doing calls at 8 PM EST with Japan on a regular basis.

Education and Experience:

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME, MSME) with 4 years of automotive engineering experience.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  2. A minimum of 3-5 years engineering related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Special Skills:

  1. Ability to manage multiple competing deadlines effectively and professionally.
  2. Skill in effectively participating in teams made up of peers, subordinates and managers.
  3. Skill in communicating with others in different departments and to other people outside the organization verbally and through writing.
  4. Knowledge of 3D CAD specifically in CATIA, with 3D modeling and drawing, is preferred.
  5. Knowledge of technical drawings with ability to review and mark-up as needed.
  6. Ability to use MS Office products, MS Project, Email, Internet, Voicemail, and other miscellaneous electronic devices and software products.
  7. Knowledge of programming software a plus. (Visual Basic, C++)
  8. Ability to speak, read, and write a foreign language is a plus. (German, Italian, Japanese)
